Life:
Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii! First, a quick real life update: everything is getting better. My low back (and buttocks) is still painful, but in more manageable way. The end verdict is that the problem is in SI (Sacroiliac) joint and the verdict makes sense to me. I am doing physio exercises that seem to be making it gradually better and take peinkillers as/when required. I am managing. I don't think my SI joint is ever going to be 100% as it was: there is no magic bullet and as far as I can tell from reading about SI joint disfunctions on the Internets the healing is long and gradual and might never return your joint to the way it was. And you don't want surgery unless your condition is REALLY bad. I am sort of prepared for a long haul as the same thing happened after my shoulder injury some years ago. Physio, careful exercises, eventual return to the land of living, but the place is always going to be weak. But I am better - I have moved on.
In short, I want to implore you all younger and older ones:
-Look after yourselves!
-Choose chairs and desks well - you are spending large amounts of time in chairs and in front of desks!
-Take breaks!
-DO NOT SIT CROSSING YOUR LEGS. At least, not for long stretches of time.
-Follow advices on sitting posture.
The New Year holidays break was wonderful: lots of rest, spending happy hours with my family, especially my daughter: shopping, eating, even TV . My daughter insisted on us watching the whole lot of "Lost" together. We are in the middle of the season 2 now. The show is ok and I am enjoying it whist we are watching it but I would have never managed to finish it by myself I think.
Spiral (Engrenages)
For myself I have been marathoning the French crime drama "Spiral" ("Engrenages") . I have watched (and liked) the season 1 ages ago, and to my delight the seasons 2 and 3 are even better. There is more character development and the main story arcs are fantastic. The second season is a bit like French "The Wire".
The best thing about European crime shows is that they always have actors and actresses that look like real people. I am not trying to criticize American TV too much as I like my eye candy as much as any other person.. But at the end of the day I think I like to see people whose stories I can relate to rather than to see stick-thin actresses with perfect haircuts. I am always literal in my thinking and the question of "How can she manage to keep her hair in perfect condition running after bandits and rolling in dirt" always bothers me.
SO, I thoroughly recommend "Spiral" and 3 seasons of it has been already subtitled by BBC so it should be available. Be not afraid of subtitles (I will not get diverted and start ranting on the topic of "why don't Americans like subtitles". I will not. I will leave this rant for another day) ! Don't wait for the show to be re-made in USA! Go for the original!!
