Typing in standing position: I forgotten to tell you about "Before they are Hanged", the second book in the "The First Law" series by Joe Abercrombie. I am almost through with this book (it must have been a hefty volume because it took me some time to listen through it), and I have a new addition in the list of the fictional characters I love but who are NOT good people in the strict sense of the word:
Inquisitor Glokta! The broken hero, the destroyer of cities, the rescuer of young women in distress (here with the background of burning Dagoska):
Glokta quote:
"Ah, the pain of the jilted lover. The loss, the anger, the shame. It seems as though you’ll never recover. What poet was it who wrote there’s no pain worse than the pain of a broken heart? Sentimental shit. He should have spent more time in the Emperor’s prisons"
Book's prologue
'We should forgive our
enemies, but not before
they are hanged.' Heinrich Heine
Steven Pacey (the narrator) has a fantastic voice, and the series are very good, dark, satirical, with the fantasy world that is very original and in the same time.. so recognisable in a way of a parody on the current state of our world.
PS: Commenting: My sincere apologies to everyone! Until this thing with my back is cleared completely, I won't be able to comment too much, but I will try to read everyone's posts..
