I thought it was a better episode than ep 1. I mean even if nothing big happened, this episode allowed us to see further into the characters. I say this as someone who's never read the books, but from this episode we can see from the conversation he had with Jon that Jaime regrets a lot of the decisions he made in his youth.
Tyrion sees through everyone's bullshit. He's incredibly sharp and I don't doubt that he noted that look that passed between his brother and sister when he mentioned that Bran might live after all.
Dany is slowly starting to take control of her life. I don't care if people say that she was just learning how to pleasure her man. It seemed to me that she realized that she couldn't just lie around and wait for things to get better because Drogo wasn't suddenly going to get gentler.
Catelyn is just fierce. So, yeah, she hates Jon because he's a constant reminder of her husband's infidelity but she is nonetheless a fierce mother. Oh man, that scene with the assassin was just gold.
There's also something off about Jon's mother. I have my theories but they're half-baked at the moment. Something about the way Ned talked about her just got my spidey senses all tingly.
** nods ** As you haven't read the books I will try not to spoil you (unless you will ask me to :D)

Oh yes. I just want him to be recognized by other members of his family! Jaime always loved him, but the others? But on the other hand, I can kill any other member of that family with my bare hands. Especially the father.

Oh no! I haven't seen any comments like that! Because I have always read Dany's stories as you: she is out of the hands of her evil brother, she is still in a very hard environment (but at least not particular evil and much more sane environment) and she starts bringing everything she can reach under her control. She is only 15 as well! I think it is so remarkable that hardships didn't break her, she just become strong! Well, the actress is much older than 15, but I think they still mean her to be 15 in the series.
Go go Catelyn!
I am not spoiling anything about Jon's mother, and in truth, nothing is clear yet , even in the books, But you are on the right track. :D
For the first time in my life, I'm actually avoiding spoilers. I knew a few things coming into the show and to be honest, it took some of the enjoyment out of the first episode. I'm still spoiled for a few other things, but I'm trying to keep it to a bare minimum.
Tyrion is just AMAZING. I've seen Peter Dinklage in a few other things, but he's really killing it here. Every time he comes on screen I just start grinning like crazy. Like when he slapped Joffrey right across the mouth? Best scene ever.
That last sex scene between Dany and Drogo really was all sorts of hot.I know Drogo has barely spoken so far, but there was just something about how about how the actors played that scene that I loved. You can tell Dany is just trying to figure out how to maneuver this whole "sex" thing and Drogo looks so out of his depth.

He is just so funny and at the same time so sad? And his timing is perfect - he just nails his lines.

It didn't really hurt is that they cast Drogo as the hottest actor on the planet. I am a married woman and all but when he got in the tent all naked I was "OMPH! Can I show you the joys of non-Dothraki sex?".
And his timing is perfect - he just nails his lines.
Definitely. Like when he said responded to Jaime saying that he'd rather die than be crippled like Bran will probably be by telling him that while death is so final, life is so full of possibilities. And I swear there was something so strong about that line, maybe it was the casual way that he said it that totally made me love him. I mean here's a guy who has an obvious disadvantage in this super rough world, but he just has so much life in him. Again, LOVE HIM.

Oh Jason Momoa is just pure sex on legs. I mean, good god, I salivate just looking at him. I thought Stargate Atlantis was pretty dull, but I'd tune in just to stare at this guy. And GoT took that and multiplied it by 10000000 because he's basically half naked in every episode. Thank you, HBO.
I really loved that moment between Jaime and Tyrion too. I don't even remember it, I probably hasn't noticed it in the book, but they did an amazing job out of it in the show. I always liked that Tyrion loves the life so much.
And GoT took that and multiplied it by 10000000 because he's basically half naked in every episode. Thank you, HBO.
I join in the thanks. And it is an advantage that he is a decent actor too. It is not as if he has too many lines, but he manages to do that eye-talking thing I am always fond of.
Because I read the books some years ago, I am not that fresh on details. Some things, like the breakfast scene, I didn't notice.
But some things, like Dany's wedding night, just blurred in with all their other nights and I had a different memory altogether. But I went back and re-read that part (because of so much controversy around it) and then I remembered how disappointed I was that Drogo started so well on their wedding night but it all just regressed into what I only can call martial rapes later.
I was fine with the way they did it in the show too. I think it would have been confusing otherwise. It just seems to have become a big thing for some reason. Probably one of many to come.
BTW, I am really glad they calmed down on sex scenes in the second episode. They even missed some opportunities. :D
The ages confuse me a bit, but I will get into it. I thought they had to make the young actors older (for obvious reasons), but why did they make Ned so much older escapes me. As you pointed out, this might confuse things. I think they will omit mentioning Ned's brother.
But don't you think that may be he is still supposed to be the same age, it is just that the creators mean "everyone gets old so quickly in those harsh conditions". You now, like people used to have the life expectancy much much shorter than it is now?
You see, Sean Bean is 51. Just few years, and I will be his age. I am positively sure I do not look that old. And I am positively sure Sean Bean does not look as old as Ned in the show. They definitely added another 10 years to Sean’s 51. This is what I am harping about
As far as I am concerned, Sean bean is my perfect Ned too. And ok, we can’t have him as late thirties or early forties guy. But why making him even older? This is what I don't understand.
For example, below is Sean Bean last year in Black Death (younger, slimmer and everything):
