Moonlight, episode 3: "Dr Feelgood"

Oct 13, 2007 18:31

It is official - I am watching this show until the end will us part, re-watching it and writing petitions if it is ever cancelled. I am starting to enjoy it's feel of the 80s melodrama, it's sentimentality and the choice of music. These were the songs of my youth and I can't ignore it! Plus this was an episode "in which Mick smiles A LOT" ..

The first thing Beth does after yesterday's revelation is being back to Mick's apartment. And here I start liking Beth (who prior to this moment was just some plucky but slightly annoying reporter) . Take it and look it in the eye - yep, I like this. Poor Mick is embarrassed, and who would not!

He finally lets her in, but puts on the best walled-up impression he can conjure:

He is definitely not smiling yet but let's see how long will this last. He has that puppy-eye hurt look that I find particular appealing.

Beth comes with what is the best line in "Moonlight" so far : "I really need you to tell me that I didn't see what I saw."

Hee! Beth is genuinely afraid and nervous and this is not helped by Mick's determination to scare her even more and give her quite useless warninsg of "How important it is that no one knows that WE exist" kind. But he is pretty, really pretty when serious.

And then she utters what can be described as a silliest thing ever "So do you bite people's necks and suck the blood out?" HEE! This is so good that atmosphere changes immediately.

Mick smiles, even against his will.

It is a pity that Beth can't stop asking questions about Mick's past, etc. etc. and he becomes all sad and broody again and reminisces about his wedding night (and his vampire wife). Before we go any further - by this point I do embrace all the crazy cinematographic decisions "Moonlight" has.. BUT! Please stop this swimming of the images in the flashback scenes! Please!! My eyes can't cope with this!

Mick rushes Beth out of his flat. He can't deal with the questions about his past yet, it still hurts..

A glimpse of today's story: a mad vampire scientist bites a doctor and by accident makes him a vampire. This is not as important as Mick and Beth's interaction so I'll keep it short.

The titles. Hmm, they remind me so much of the titles for "Sunshine".

The newly-vampired doctor goes crazy as he has no one to help him with his transition. This is the first time in his life when he realizes that chips are BAD.

Beth keeps following Mick around and asking if he trusts her or not. It could have been quite annoying if it wasn't quite cute. It also seems that Mick really doesn't mind it ( underneath his hard exterior).

She even follows him to the hospital where the body of the first victim is held.

And at this point Mick explains her how a person turns into a vampire. Beth takes this information quite easily and she is more and more comfortable with Mick's vampire side.

And when she leaves Mick is quite sad at first

But after a moment he smiles a little and this is my favourite screenshot from this episode:

Later we get a glimpse of Josef. It could have been even better if there was MORE Josef in this episode.. Things are never perfect. :D

There is a new character- The cleaner. This lady seems to be very important. She sports garb usually associated with vampires. I am so glad Mick has a very different taste. Imagine him in motorbike pants! ** shrugs at the thought **

Beth does some Internet research. I like how scared she looks in this shot:

Finally! Mick and Beth go for a ride on Mick's classic car. Badly filmed car rides appear very often in "Moonlight". a) The creators want to show off Mick's car (and the car is awesome!) or b) the creators want to show how much 80s-like this show looks? Hmm..

But look! Mick is smiling very wide at something Beth said. She tried to feed him chips and asked if he can fly.

And he smiles some more, just to make me happy. He is 85 and looks like that - a good reason to smile!

In the house of the doctor-turn-vampire: his wife is murdered.

Mick broods some more about the past and his wife. Hmm, the rough vampire doctor seems to be too far gone - he will not stop killing now. He has not been "socialized".

But then the crazy scientist appears, obviously to stab Mick in his back:

With a stake. But Beth is fully accustomed with the role of a vampire helper and she pulls the stake out.

Awwwwwwwwwww! Manicure!

Awwwwwwwwwww! Angst!

Luckily the scientist has not gone far and is apprehended by The Cleaner (who now appears to be some kid of a vampire authority)

Last look at the poor doctor - he doesn't have long to live. Mick will incinerate him any minute.

And then he and Josef will have a long meaningful conversation. In short, Josef advises Mick to "move on". Josef looks good once again.

I wasn't expecting this! This show manages to surprise me once again! Mick heeds Josef's words and goes to 'fess the tragic story of his turning (by his young wife on his wedding night) to Beth.

And Viva Beth! (and I am surprised again) She doesn't make a big deal about it but is rather very understanding which makes Mike smile again (thank you, Beth!)

And it all ends very happily with a hand touch. AWWWWWW!

PS I also watched "Blood Ties" today. I have made a big mistake with "Blood Ties" - I have read one of the books. Hmm and Hmm again - I didn't like it at all. Now I can't look at the show with quite the same love that I had before. May be this will pass.
