#89.1.B Will you miss me
I awoke slowly, laying on a hard cold surface and wondered if the flap had come open again. I groggily realized that there was a warm heavy weight on my chest, thinking it was the dog I reached to push it off. It moaned loudly and I came fully awake, my eyes trying to snap open. One was strangely dark and felt thick and gooey, like an egg had been left to dry on it.
My Mama lay draped across my chest, one hand flung off into space, the other pinned against her belly between us. I tried to reach up to her, the pain was sudden and paralyzing. I couldn't move, my breath froze in my chest, every part of my body sang with fire. Hot tears flooded over my right cheek, a stabbing pressure built at the corner of my left eye, which would not open. With a start my breath broke free from my chest. I screamed out in pain and rage and fear until I felt the weight on my chest stirring.
"Mama?" I spoke raggedly, each syllable hurting.
"Hush now, hush. We don't have much time left us. Your Papa,your sister and little Fabien are dead." her voice shook, each word carried a fine mist of blood with it, but a fire burned in her green, I thought they were brown, eyes. "I will be joining them very soon. First I must send you away. I must send you to some place that you will be able to find help." she coughed violently and a sudden outhouse stench filled the air. The blood spittle pored out of her with each rasping wheeze. I had my Mama's life blood running down my face.
She cupped her hands over my face and began to sing haltingly at first. With each verse of the song her voice grew in strength and a warm comfort flooded through me. I did not know what language she sang, but the word tugged at my heart with a sweat longing. I closed my eyes and lay back against the cold ground. a wash of warm tears fell on my face like rain as Mama sang. Slowly her voice began to fade, as if heard from far off and I could only vaguely feel the ground beneath my head and shoulders. As her song ended I opened my eye and looked up. She was fading as if I was drawing into the distance.
"Will you miss me Alexandre? Will you remember always?" I could barely hear her now.
"Always mother, I will miss and remember you always." tears choked my voice as I forced out the last four words I ever spoke to her in life, "I love you Mama."
"I love you too, Alexandre, never forget me and I will never truly die. Find the Lady... Find her." Mama faded out of sight and then the rest of the world with her. For a time All I could see were rolling clouds of grey mist, and I think I must have passed out again for I saw strange and beautiful creatures moving through it, then nothing.
