Alex: *swallows hard as she gazes into Olivia's eyes, her head swimming, her stomach turning over and over with the thoughts going through her head. She smiles slightly* I don't have to return just yet. *her smile widens* But I do believe a walk on deck would do us both some good.
Olivia: *Squeezes Alex's hand, nodding, understanding, bowing slightly as her other hand motions, once again, to the staircase, her eyes dancing.* Ladies first.
Alex: *laughs and nudges her gently* Go. I am so sick of being treated like a lady! You go first this time!
Olivia: *Chuckles* Alright, then. *Quirks an eyebrow before smirking* Be careful what you wish for. *Without a warning, still holding tightly onto Alex's hand, she dashes up the stairs, laughing the whole way up*
Alex: *cries out slightly in surprise, a smile still wide on her lips as she clutches her dress in her hand, running after Olivia, laughing with her, she manages to breathe out* No fair!
Olivia: *Laughing hard when they reach the top of the long flight of stairs, breath coming out in pants and in sharp inhales. Her words are as playful as the glint in her eye, teasing* I thought you didn't want to be treated like a fair lady.
Alex: *laughing, inhaling the sharp sea air deep into her lungs, her breathing heavy* You could have at least given me warning!
Olivia: *Still laughing through her words, leaning forward a little on Alex to keep her support, a laugh still making its way every couple of gasped minutes* Now what's the fun in that?
Alex: *still laughing, panting slightly, her tone teasing* And what would you have done if I'd tripped over my dress and fallen flat on my face on those stairs?!
Olivia: *Smiles widely, looking down at their joined hands, her voice sincere through her shining eyes* I wouldn't have let you fall. I would have caught you. *Squeezes Alex's hand, smile wide*
Alex: *smiles, her eyes glowing as she slowly drops Olivia's hand.* Catch me now. *she takes off down the deck, laughing, not caring as people begin to stare.*
Olivia: *Watches Alex run for a moment, blinking, before she takes off after her, still laughing, beaming, not able to deny the swell in her heart in watching Alex be free--knowing full and well that this is a side of the blonde no one has probably ever really seen before--and she runs faster after her, conflicted between catching her and letting her run, watching her laugh so happily. She calls out, voice laced with laughter* Yeah, now who's cheating?!
Alex: *calls over her shoulder, her laughter genuine, her eyes glowing as she feels the wind blow her hair out behind her* I gave you warning!
Olivia: *Shakes her head, eyes twinkling* Like hell you did! *Darts in between two first class passengers, barely able to mumble a mindless apology before she has already passed them, continuing to run on. When they get to a curve in the ship, Olivia speeds up and wraps her arms around Alex's waist, spinning her around quickly, laughing loudly, not letting go. She leans forward and whispers in Alex's ear, lips an inch away, heart beating in her ears* Gotcha.
Alex: *shrieks and laughs, her face red from the exertion and the rapidly cooling sea air nipping at it as she ran. She lowers her arms, placing them on top of Olivia's, her palms pressing against the back of Olivia's hands as she twines their fingers together against her body. She giggles slightly as she tries to regulate her breathing, but even as that calms, her heart rate stays quick, flighty and she grins broadly, the laughs no longer shaking her body but still glowing very obviously in her eyes*
Olivia: *Still beaming, her breaths coming in large gulps, her heart raging against her chest as she leans her chin on Alex's shoulder, closing her eyes for a moment. She listens to the waves crashing around them, the sound of their excited breaths, and, faintly--because, even though she has no idea why, she can hear nothing but them, as if no one else was on the boat--she can hear their heartbeats, rapidly, beating together. She can feel the rise and fall of her chest match Alex's and she can feel her racing pulse in Alex's delicate hands. Olivia inhales deeply, taking in everything in the moment, before opening her eyes again, not moving her head, gazing towards Alex from her awkward angle as she holds her tighter. Her voice is entranced, almost excited to know, daringly loving* Tell me something more about yourself, Alex. *Olivia's brow furrows, the beaming smile on her face still in place* Tell me your dreams. Your aspirations.
Alex: *she thinks for a moment, her eyes gazing out over the water.* I've always wanted to get a law degree. *her eyes focus on the horizon as her face grows thoughtful, serious* Mother and Robert laugh it off as part of my feisty temperament and say that once I'm settled in marriage, I'll no longer want it. But I know I'll always want it. You know some states still don't allow women to be lawyers. New York admitted the first woman to the bar in 1886. *shakes her head a little* I would like to be able to vote for President. *gazes back at Olivia* I want the same basic rights as any man. Robert tells me I read too much, but I'm merely gaining knowledge so that when my time comes I can prove I am just as well read as the best of men. *inhales deeply* And I want to fly in an airplane and let it take me to that horizon. *turns her eyes back over the water* I want to live without the restrictions of a lady.*realizes how heavy she's let the mood get and she smiles a little, trying to bring it back up again* Just once I'd like someone to let me ride a horse like a cowboy. Or let me smoke a cigarette without freaking out. Or hell let me forget everything I learned at any finishing school. *smile widens* Although I do believe you may be contributing rather horribly to that last one.
Olivia: *Listens to Alex's voice fill with passion, knowing, by now, the passionate look that must fill those blue eyes while she says it. Olivia closes her eyes, listening, drinking it in, easily able to imagine Alex ripping apart half of New York with a law degree, and she goes to tell her this when Alex's tone changes and she laughs heartily at Alex's last comment, pulling her head back so she can get a better look at Alex's face from her angle, quirking an eyebrow* Is that right? *at Alex's smirk she takes their entwined fingers and brings one set over Alex's head, twirling her under it, clasping their hands together so she can face her properly before pulling her to the edge of the railing, smiling widely* First off, you can sure as hell become a lawyer. I have no doubt about that. You're by far the smartest woman I've met. *Olivia mindlessly runs her fingers up Alex's palms and down to her fingertips, smirking* And the most stubborn. That should help quite a bit. *Shakes her head, turning them both towards the ocean* I don't see why you can't do any of this, especially when I'm obviously already helping you with the last one.
Alex: *closes her eyes and lets the sea air wash over her again, relaxing in Olivia's arms* When I marry Robert, any dreams I have will have to be set aside to make a family, a home for him, like any good wife. *takes in a deep breath* I can't help but feel I was never cut out to just be someone's wife. I can't have such a slow, meaningless existence. I've never had someone to help me reach my dreams. If anything I've had the opposite. *smiles, gazing at Olivia, clutching her hands tighter* Go with me to the horizon.
Olivia: *Her breath leaves her throat as, somewhere deep in the back of her mind, she knows the reality of what's happening. What Alex is laying out before her, offering her. And Olivia closes her eyes for a moment, letting it wash through her before she opens her eyes and locks gazes with Alex* I'd fly with you to the stars, if you asked me.
Alex: *the smile leaves her lips as her face grows serious, she gazes deep into Olivia's eyes and whispers* Fly with me to the stars.
Olivia: *Searches Alex's eyes, before walking behind her, once more, moving them back into the same position they had been in, moments earlier, only Olivia's palms slide over Alex's hands, twining them, resting her head in the crook of Alex's neck before whispering in her ear* Close your eyes.
Alex: *gazes at her for a moment before turning her head back straight and slowly closing her eyes, her hands clutching Olivia's tightly*
Olivia: *Turns her head towards the setting sun, resting her cheek against Alex's, her voice tender, soft, wondering, as if remembering a dream, her voice getting softer as she speaks* We're in a small boat off the coast of Sicily. We've just had one of the best days you could imagine. We walked through the streets of Palermo, hand in hand, my sketchbook in my arm and your books--because you're studying for your bar--in yours. I sold 10 cent paintings off the shore while you laughed and watched, telling people you'd debate them for free. And when an idiot actually tried you for it, *she smirks* you won us 30 cents from one red-faced guy. We saw Chirico, some of his best, and we sat there in the gallery for hours, just looking, talking. And when I make a wise crack about how boring art is, you hit me so hard I fell off the bench, angry at me when you laugh anyways. And when we left the gallery, we danced. We followed a couple of town friends and we danced until the crickets chirped and the moon had long since hung before we pedaled a boat from a nice, poorly-dressed, but endearing, man named Giovanni. He let us use it for free, and that's where we are now, lying in this small boat, your head on my chest, my arms around your waist, our fingers lazily clasped as I hold you tight against me. And it's this beautiful night--this gorgeous, beautiful night. There are so many stars that you could lose yourself in them, and I whisper that it's like the night we first met. And you laugh a little, whispering that it's our own Starry Night. And I can't help but think we've captured it, on this small little boat of ours, you in my arms. *Olivia opens her eyes, because somewhere along the line, she's closed them too, a soft smile on her lips, her words barely a whisper* We traveled to the stars, you and I.
Alex: *her breathing is gentle, a smile growing across her lips as Olivia speaks. She loses herself in the idea of it, in the feel of it and she realizes that in all her life, she has never had someone do something so incredible for her, nor has she ever had someone read her so well that they could map out such an incredibly perfect day. And she realizes then, that time is of little relevance, what matters is when two people connect on such a level that a single day, just one single day, like the one she has shared with Olivia, could be enough to fill a lifetime and she realizes that she wants more days like this, more days to fill hundreds of lifetimes, realizing she could never get enough of this, of the feeling it creates within her. She gazes at Olivia when she finishes, her eyes speaking of the love that she's still too afraid to voice. She gently untangles one of her hands from Olivia's, lifting it up to brush gently over her cheek, cupping it in her palm. She murmurs.* Thank you.
Olivia: *Her eyes flutter shut at Alex's gentle touch and she raises the abandoned hand to the one cupping her face, squeezing it softly before opening her eyes, searching deep, deep pools of blue. The love in them is clear as day--unmistakable--and Olivia gulps, knowing very well what is shining back in her own eyes, leaning their foreheads together, their bodies tangled together like their hands. Olivia once again marvels in the change of heart--of this wonderful, amazing new addition to her life--that took place in less than a day. But she knows she stopped questioning it from the moment she saw Alex's face over the railing, and Olivia's hand shakes as she moves her hand down Alex's hand, up her arm, to the back of her neck, hesitating momentarily, pulling back and searching into Alex's eyes once more, before she leans forward and softly, reverently, lovingly, presses her lips against Alex's forehead in a silent--yet even in silence it speaks louder than a thousand words--response to Alex's gratitude, before she wraps her arm back around Alex, leaning their foreheads back together.*
Alex: *sees everything from her own eyes mirrored in Olivia's and she swallows hard, though still strangely sure of herself and as she feels Olivia's lips against her forehead, her eyes flutter shut and her heart beats so loudly, she wonders how the whole ship hasn't heard it yet. She breathes heavily, missing the warmth of Olivia's lips against her skin as soon as they are gone, but loving instantly the way it is replaced with Olivia's forehead against her own. She gazes into the deep, dark eyes, realizing that for brown eyes, they shine with so much emotion, so much life, so many unspoken things. And she realizes she loves being able to communicate in this way, to not have to fill every silence, to just be in complete and perfect peace. She revels in the feel of Olivia's body against her own, in the warmth it creates within her, the cold sea air long since forgotten*
Olivia: *can't help the slow smile that starts to spread across her face as she pulls Alex even tighter against her, the warmth spreading throughout her started from her toes and ending in her ears. The silence is comfortable, relaxed, but, at the same time, Olivia feels as if she could say anything to the woman in front of her. Like she could say anything and feel like the greatest person alive, in this moment. Because Alex is in her arms. Because Olivia is holding Alex against her...her own starry sky. She wonders if, later, were she to draw this, if she could capture this moment on paper. If she could ever truly capture Alex on paper. She tightens her grip, closing her eyes once more, inhaling deeply, allowing the emotions building up around them to climax within her, her heart raging against her chest.*
Alex: *clutching Olivia tighter, sensing, feeling, all the energy, the emotion emanating from the other woman. She goes to lose herself in the moment again, just starting to shut her eyes when she sees an all too familiar hat. She jerks out of Olivia's arms as her mother and friends come down the deck, her heart hammering so loudly that all logical thought is lost*
