journaling, and the point of doing such a thing

Dec 17, 2003 02:39

TOday I watched The Last Samurai, ITs a n excellent movie, and recomend it to anyone the law allows, just be prepared to cry. Snyway, the movie is not the point. IN the movie, that main character kept a journal, which caused me to contemplate why a person would do such a thing. I know that I personally do a really horrible job of keeping a journal on a regular basis. But when I write, i do it for the sake of having something to look back at. Its a way to capture a feeling that I had in a moment, or to explain a given situation, or even just to put down my thoughts in writing, so that i can remember what they were at a given time. I also, despite my complete lack of keeping up my LJ, have a paper journal, which some major events appear in. In the end however, I write, because i know that one day, I want to be able to read my own story, like I have been able to read so many others. I want to be able to understand how fooolish and optomistic I was at this age, when I look back at it 20 years from now. I want to be able to relate to myself as I am now, when I am old, and for that reason, I am going to begin journaling again.
