I was in Mississippi Friday on a business trip. I can't go into details, but there truly isn't much to say. My plane landed at 8 p.m. on Thursday, I was out of the hotel at 7 a.m. the next day and conducting business until 1 p.m., at which time I was back at the airport and on my way home.

That's not a lot of time to form any great impressions.

However, the trip marked the beginning of a week off of work. I've spent the last seven months saving up leave, and I have taken it in bulk.

The only problem is that I have not figured out what to do with my free time.

The last time I had such a string of leave, I was unemployed; and I spent most of that time looking for work. This time I have some options, and I can't put my finger on anything. I had originally thought of going to the AT, but a certain governor from a certain Southern state managed to kill the idea for me (not that I wouldn't have needed to buy a bunch of camping gear anyway).

So then I started thinking about actually traveling -- like, to another country. But then I remembered that my passport is MIA.

Now I'm trying to plan a stay-cation. I had thought, perhaps, to make headway on my reading list, but then I've neglected to actually make one. I've gotten a great many good book recommendations, but unless I went out and got the book at that moment -- and then typically read it in short order -- I didn't make a permanent log of it.

As such, my time off is turning saddeningly into just a week-long version of what I do in the few hours between when I get home from work and when I go to bed. It's an awful waste of time off; and since it will be a good while longer before I have this opportunity, I really am hoping for a burst of inspiration.
