Hieroglyphics are amazing performers. Last night was out of control. They opened with "Classic" which is one of my favorite songs. I wondered how they'd play it without Del, or if they would at all. A Plus and Pep Love did Del's part, which is pretty much what I envisioned, and it was great. Tajai had a video camera on the crowd for the last three songs and I'm pretty sure at some point you will be able to see the hatted and sweaty visage of myself around the 5th row bouncing up and down to "The Powers That Be" on some sort of "Freshly Dipped Tour" DVD. Everyone played some solo stuff, but I think my favorite part was when they played a Souls of Mischief Song. Hearing them do '93 'Til Inifity was fantastic.
I met Casual in the alley after the show trying to buy weed with the money he made selling his CDs to drunk kids staggering out of the show. Seeing them live was fucking amazing. I will never miss a Hieroglyphics show I can get to again. They are like the Wu Tang Clan of the hip hop underground. I can't believe people skipped this show because Del wasn't going to be there. Del is a fucking diva and I refuse to support him any longer. I think if anything tears Hiero apart I speculate it will be Del becoming more successful than the rest of the group and just never playing shows with them anymore. I would be furious if that's what it came to.
