At the base of Mount Kaimon, tucked between its steep incline and the crackling igneous beach, is Hanaze Park. It serves as a memorial to the Japanese soldiers who never returned home from the battle of the Philippines (1941 - 42) during WWII. From this point, a weathered statue of a mother and daughter gaze expectantly across the sea towards the Filipino archipelago.
Another statue depicting a young Japanese soldier. Sad place, really.
