I got into it with the bus driver this morning. "Got into it" probably isn't the right phrase, since there was no yelling or anything. But anytime you say something to a bus driver that isn't "hello" or "thanks", it's a little out of the ordinary.

So here's the context. I don't usually take this bus, I usually take the one before it, but since I've been sick, I've been treating myself to 10 more minutes of sleep. This bus is supposed to arrive at 7:26. I use my cell phone (universal time) so that I know when to leave, and every other bus I ride seems to have the exact same time as my phone (because it's universal time. have I mentioned that already?). I have used this bus before with no problems. But yesterday, I went out there and the bus was already there. I was not about to run (I could barely stand up because I was so sick) and there was a friggin lake in the middle of the sidewalk because no one seems to care about keeping it in working order. And thankfully the bus was still there by the time I got to it. I sat down and checked my time, and it was 7:24. And we took off down the street. I know what you're thinking. "Wow, Alex, a whole two minutes. Who cares?" Well in the middle of July, I wouldn't care. But it's the middle of winter, and I try to time it down as close as I can so that I'm not standing out in the cold any longer than I have to. It seems to me that most people do that. And the bus schedules are pretty precise. They don't say, "around 7:25." They say "7:26." If I'm a minute late, that's just one tiny little minute, but they're not going to wait for me. Every minute is a big deal to them, so it's a big deal to me too.

So this morning, same thing, I get out there, and the bus is already there. They start taking off, and I wave. She stops for me, I get in, and she says, "You gotta be at the stop." And I say "Well you're early." As she continues down the road, she says, "No I'm not, I'm late actually." I say, "Not according to my schedule." She mumbles something. I pull one of the schedule pamphlets off the wall and say to her, "It says here, you're supposed to be here at 7:26." She says, "yeah, I was there at 7:26 and a half." I pull out my cell phone, say, "Not according to my time." She points to her clock and says something about my time being wrong. I say, "this is universal time." She says, "so is this." .....obviously not, since we're about 3 minutes apart. So anyway, I walk away saying something about how something is off then.

Just not a great start to the day. I wasn't intending to be difficult or rude or anything. And I wasn't saying anything rudely. I was just matter of fact about it. It just really bugs me when the buses aren't right. And I wouldn't have said anything, if she hadn't said anything. So anyway, I don't plan to take that bus again for a while. And hopefully this day ends up going better than it started. I hate starting my day like that.
