Communism cannot be authoritarian by definition.

Actual communism is antithetical to authoritarianism. We have not yet seen actual communism applied to an entire country yet. What we've seen is dictators feigning communistic concern as an excuse to rise to power.

Communism by its very definition is when the people come together - willingly, as a majority of the population - and seize the means of production. A minority of people forcing "communism" on the majority makes it no longer communism. Forced, statist communism is as much an oxymoron as "far left fascism" or having an "anarchist king."
