Two things (or three)

My roommate told me there was a massacre in a gay bar recently. She also was complaining that people were like “Gun control! Gun control!” on the idea that, as she said, “Evil people can just steal guns.” She had a lot of trouble with the simple concept that if you stop selling guns legally, it makes it a lot harder for these people to get guns ( Read more... )

Sorry, but we already have proof that doesn't work very well. Either they'll use something else that may limit the casualties a bit (example, the guy in England(?) who attacked folks in a fast food joint with a machete) or they *raise* the casualties by using a bomb.

Timothy McVeigh, the Unabomber, the bombing of the Atlanta Olympics, the school shooting back in Colorado that started the hole bit with big news school shootings (they had bombs as well as guns, but the bombs didn't work), the Boston Marathon bombers...

And then there are things like the nightclub in New York that someone set fire to and blocked the doors. I can recall several other "murder by arson" case (all seemed to involve night clubs) case, but not where they happened.

Then there are the folks who drove their cars into crowds....

Oh yeah, here in Oregon back in the 80s. The Rajneeshies tried spread some disease (I forget which one) by contaminating the salad bar in restaurants.

So *some* people will give up if there isn't an easy enough way. Others will just find another way.

Bombs are not that hard to make. Arson isn't hard to do. Cars are *easy* to get and can kill and main lots of people.

And actually (and scarily) homebrew biowarfare isn't super difficult either. I won't go into details here, but if you want to ask me next time we meet, I'll tell you.
