A lot of people are like "Satanism is just a form of Christianity." Well guess what? Satan started out as the Egyptian god Set, who back then was Set-hn (the h makes a throat-clearing sound), because the Hebrew slaves hated the Egyptians, and Set's cult was huge back then. Later on, Christianity gave Satan his horned and hooved appearance, based on the pagan horned gods that were popular in pagan Europe at the time, like Pan, Herne, and Cernunnos. None of these things about His appearance are in the Bible, they are not canon in Christianity.
Because Satan's name and appearance both come from pagan religions, and because Satanists are reclaiming Satan's name and appearance and role as the ruler of the Earth, Satanism is not Christian, it is pagan. Satanism is a form of paganism.
Not that most Satanists would admit this, nor would most pagans agree either. Satanists tend to think of pagans as New Agey fluffbunny Christians in disguise, and pagans tend to throw Satanists under the bus in an attempt to gain legitimacy with Christians, and it's annoying because here I am, both a Satanist *and* a pagan. But it's still true; Satanism is a form of paganism.
