It was several *teenagers*. And it was a young woman that did it, not men. You *really* need to PAY ATTENTION when listening to the news.

And if you ask, you'll discover that *police departments* consider that perennial suggestion to be incredibly stupid.

For several reasons. First of all, it won't do anything about toy guns.

Second, it won't affect real guns that have been customized. Like the pink AR-15 I *know* you've seen pictures of.

And finally, only idiots like those pressing for that law fail to realize that if it was passed, folks planning a shooting would spray paint their gun so as to give them an advantage as the cops hesitate for a critical instant.

It's yet another case of people not even *beginning* to think about how bad guys will *use* the law in ways that they didn't intend.

Ask a cop what *he* thinks of the suggestions to make the toys brightly colored. And be prepared for a lot of abuse over suggesting something so monumentally *stupid*. I've been present when it's happened.

The proper thing to do is get *training* in gun safety for kids (and training in *thinking*). So they'll know better than to point them at people who aren't in the game and most importantly, so they'll know *not* to ignore a voice telling them to put down the weapon.

People need to know that if a voice says something like "Police! Drop the gun!" then they'd damn well better not go "what gun?" but rather drop *anything* they have in their hands.

That law would be about as useful and sensible as the restrictions on what can be taken on planes. It *sounds* good while actually not doing a damn thing to make things safer. In fact, both cases make things *less* safe.

He should totally dress as Loki, and go to school to tell kids to do their homework (no more drop out, not a school paper below A-)

This is like saying he should tell all the depressed people to quit being depressed.

Getting "good grades" take more than "mere" desire. It takes skill, knowledge and a teacher that is willing to *give* you good grades for good work.

Neither desire nor effort guarantee success.
