Dog: food?

Jan 12, 2012 03:31

I've always wondered what dog tastes like. I'd try it, if it were in the proper context. Sure, some people have recently killed and eaten pet cats... personally, I find it distasteful. Not just because I'm a cat lover but could take or leave dogs, either. No no, the reason is because I disapprove of eating an animal just to make a point. Eating it out of necessity or genuine curiosity about its flavor, as long as the animal isn't somebody's pet and is slaughtered humanely, I can agree with. Though in this country, I would avoid doing even that just because of this society's collective panty-bunching about eating "man's best friend." I'd go to a country where it's commonplace, to try it.

As to cats, cats are so scrawny that the only real reason to eat one is desperation; hell, rats would probably make better meals than cats. And I love cats too much to eat one even out of curiosity, even if it had died of natural causes.

But so much of which animals are considered edible is just culture. Some cultures eat cockroaches or worse. Basically, humans will eat anything that isn't culturally taboo.

Something else occurs to me, but I'll let Fayanora say it on her blog. EDIT: Which she did, here.
