These information pickets are non-confrontational, fun and empowering. You will meet a lot of like-minded people who share your desire to end the seal hunt. You don't have to have ever picketted before to come out. All you will have to do is ask people to boycott Canadian seafood at Red Lobster and everywhere else until the seal hunt is ended and hand out some fliers.
Why hold a picket now?
The Canadian government is planning to increase the quota of next years seal hunt to 350,000 baby seals. Ninety-seven percent of all seals killed are less than 3 months old, many as young as 12 days old.
We need your help to prevent this from happening again next spring.
The reason we have chosen this particular week is because these are the six days before Red Lobster's parent company, Darden Restaurants Inc., is holding a board of directors meeting (Sept. 20th) and a shareholder's meeting (Sept. 21st.) in Orlando Florida. The Humane Society of the United States will be sending 20 activists into the shareholder's meeting to let shareholder's know about the Canadian seafood boycotts and we want to be able to let them know that we are holding information pickets outside Red Lobster restaurants throughout Canada to get people to boycott Canadian seafood at Red Lobster. We want Darden's shareholders to know that there is a huge public outcry that Red Lobster purchases seafood from fishermen who club baby seals.
Why target Red Lobster?
Red Lobster is America's No. 1 seafood chain with more than 600 restaurants in the United States, as well as restaurants in Ontario, Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Darden Restaurants, the multi-billion-dollar company that owns Red Lobster, buys millions of dollars' worth of seafood each year from Canadian fishermen, including the same people who club baby seals to death. These fishermen make the vast majority of their income from fishing, not sealing. That's why we have called for a boycott of Canadian seafood. And that's why we are targeting Red Lobster now: The chain has tremendous power to directly pressure the very people who kill the seals.
Please come out to picket to end the seal hunt
We need to have a huge turnout of activists at each Red Lobster location (see addresses below) to show Red Lobster that their support of the seal hunt is unacceptible and to "convince" them to boycott Canadian seafood.
Please come out to a picket and bring family, friends, work associates, neighbours, etc. We are depending on you for support. The seals need you more than ever!
Be a part of animal protection history!
Wish you could do something to protect Canada's baby seals?
Angry and frustrated with the cruelty, greed and indifference that makes up Canada's seal hunt?
Tired of feeling helpless each year when hundreds of thousands of helpless baby seals, most less than three months old, are brutally clubbed and shot?
Now you can do something!
