The only time I heard anyone at college talk to me about the why gay marriage is should remain illegal, the Fourteenth Amendment does not apply to gay people, and why there is nothing wrong with eliminating the seperation of church and state. When I went to a Campus Crusade for Christ meeting earlier this year (for an English paper), they had a speaker who talked about the "moral crisis" our country was going through. A large part of this "crisis" was the Supreme Court's ruling on Lawrence v Texas. The main "crisis" however, was exposing Christian students to new ideas.
Most of the people I have met in college are rational people who do not force their beliefs on others. These irrational people who force their beliefs on others still make up around half of the US population, and two thirds of all elected officials, so Bush's endorsement, or near endorsement of a Constitutional ban on gay marriage is really not that surprising. This country is still very backwards.
