As promised, I will reveal the contents of my Box of Awesome, sent to me by genagirl, in return for the box o' crap that I sent her.
When I looked in my foyer for the mail, I found an intriguing brown cardboard box. (Note: I took a picture of it before I opened it, but you can read my address on it, so if I posted it I'd have to lock the post, which I don't want to do.)
Little did I know that its mild-mannered exterior concealed a Box. Of. Awesome.
Edit: Sorry for putting these huge photos on everybody's flist...there is supposed to be a cut here, but it isn't working.
There were some fannish things:
Starting at noon and going around in roughly clockwise fashion, we have a Cascade PD hat, a photograph of Jim and Blair about to make out (I'm embarrassed to admit for how long I was baffled that this could exist. It's, like, a real photo on photo paper. It took me a while to remember that it is indeed possible to have pictures from your computer printed out at the photo place). Under that are a number of other photos of Jim and Blair, which are all magnets, as well as a keychain with a picture of Blair and a Cascade license plate keychain. Leaving Sentinel territory, there is another picture-magnet, this one of Fraser, Ray V., and pilot!Dief. Finally, and most thrillingly, two CDs, one the due South soundtrack and one a Paul Gross album.
Was that all the fannish stuff, you ask? Not at all; there was so much I had to take a second picture for the House and miscellaneous fandom stuff:
At the top right, there's a wooden box with House and Wilson decoupaged onto it, and at the bottom is a decoupaged wooden triptych thingy, also of House and Wilson. Pretty sure Gena made these two herself, guys! Then there's a book about film and TV in Vancouver, which I put in this photo because many fannish shows are made there, and a Man from U.N.C.L.E. novelization. I've never actually seen any Man from U.N.C.L.E., but it's supposed to be slashy as hell, so it's been on my list of things to watch someday. In the middle of the picture is a little pendant thingy with a stone angel on one side and "Grief has given me a heart of stone" on the other. I put it in with the fandom stuff because it looks sorta like a Weeping Angel, although I'm not certain that was intended. I think Gena made that one, too. And also the top from Inception, another thing I haven't seen but that is on my list.
"Okay, Alex," I can hear you saying. "That's about it, right? One box couldn't possibly hold more awesome than that, could it?" Indeed, it can! There was also two pictures' worth of assorted stuff:
The top row shows a Kung Fu Panda happy meal toy, which it turns out you twist the round part, then press a button on the other part, and the round part flies away. It took me a while to figure out because the two parts were separated in transit. Next in the top row is some very big round gift tags, then a book about trees. The object sitting on the tree book is a pen, which you will see in its full glory in the next picture. The most, uh, interesting part of it was cut off in this shot.
Second row: a Leaning Tower of Pisa notebook, a plastic knight, a little military-style medal thing (which I plan to put on my army surplus coat with my Barrayaran military paraphernalia, including my ImpSec silver eyes. Clearly I received this medal for something too highly classified to tell you about), a blue rubber ducky (which could have gone in with the due South stuff if I had thought of it), and a notecard with a winter street scene on it.
Third row: two necklaces, one gold Mardi Gras beads and one a little bottle that contains glitter and words (I haven't been able to figure out if the words say anything--Gena?), a blue clip with a magnet on it, a giant paperclip, a very small spider, two buttons in a plastic bag, a bracelet of pretty pastel-colored beads, a Euro, a little paper flower, assorted library bookmarks, and a pencil. (I think Gena also made the bottle necklace, and maybe the bracelet, as well.)
Finally, there are a few more treasures that I forgot to put in the other photo:
We'll read from the right. First, a very disturbing pen. You can see his demented expression; what you can't see is that if you press down on the figurine, it lets out a demented cackle as well. Next time I do Boxes o' Crap, one of you lucky people is getting this thing. In the middle a cup. I forgot to put that one in the last picture because I started using it right away. It's especially nice because the my great-grandmother had that pattern. Finally, a Humorous Christmas Cow, which I expect to treasure for the rest of my life.
So, thank you, Gena! If you missed out on this Box o'Crap exchange, keep your eyes peeled, because I do hope to do another one before too long.
