Between Thesis and Gemini

Jun 06, 2013 21:20

I have been far too quiet of late. I realize now I have been silent now for almost a year. I apologize for this. As a student of communication, you would think I could aim some of that focus here. The cobbler's children have no shoes, I suppose.

The reason for my prolonged absence is down to one thing: I am presently working on my master's thesis. I will have completed it by this coming December. After that, I will begin work on my doctorate and dissertation. As lengthy as Gemini has been, this feels much longer.

As many of you have noted, I am not on this year's Big Bang author's list. The answer is simply this: I could not have twenty thousand words ready by deadline, which fell during the spring semester and the flurry of end-of-the-year academic lunacy. HOWEVER, Gemini Ascendant is most definitely happening, and I will complete the first draft this summer. I will work with my beta, and the story will be on the list for next year's Big Bang.

I hate that there is any delay. A year is a long enough wait, but now I ask you for two. I take some small comfort in the fact that the cruel, sadistic, brilliant and magnificent bastard, George R. R. Martin, made us wait seven years between books. Obviously, his talent grossly out strips my own, but I view myself as, at least, less cruel than he.

Thank you all so very much for reading, and apparently re-reading, these very long and convoluted stories from a complete unknown in the fandom. You have poured out such kindness in your comments, and I hope that in the next three months, I can spare some time to respond to each of you individually.

In short, fear not. Our boys will return. I am equally daunted and excited by the scope of the final story in this arc. Hopefully, it will not disappoint.
