Even if he doesn't manage to encounter Jack beforehand, the conventions of the genre dictate he returns to Port Royal in time for the ball. To represent to elite and all that. Cajoled by the well-meaning governor and his persuasive daughter. As such things go.

...Hm, poor Lt. Groves, though. He would have loved to come as a pirate, right? He probably has a ready costume lying around, complete with an eyepatch.
