I still feel a bit guilty about spoilering the movie for you, but I'm very happy that you enjoyed reading it. Thank you for your lovely comment, yum! :D
"A --> B --> C" - this is positively dreadful. I actually love "???" much more. Oh, don't worry :) there's also a bit of '???', and the good sort of it. Especially in Philip & Syrena thread.
In fact, I think CotBP was Will's movie, as the leading hero, but it just became Jack's series, in a whole. I've never been a great fan of Will & Elizabeth, but I appreciated them as fine characters and I can imagine their fan's feelings. I hoped to be a Philip & Syrena fan, but they disappointed me a bit... Hmm, let's say I still hope, for the fandom abilities, this time. ;D
I'm having a recurring impression that this movie is often being... crude?Guh, exactly. 'Subtlety' and 'PotC!George II' doesn't fit in the same sentence. Many people will find him amusing, for sure, but I was rather annoyed. And the last nail in his coffin was his last shot
( ... )
OST plot looks like a lesson taken after AWE. No big '???' this time, there is A --> B --> C instead, with minor holes looking like 'here was a deleted scene'. Seriously, I hope there will be A LOT of them on DVD. Looks like it should be, at least. And speaking of deleted scenes, why in the sanity's sake they were included in the promotional clips...??? *grumble* I wanted to know why Jack sparks, ahem, the typical female at-Jack-sight reaction in a mermaid. That is, in this particular case, apart of the general being Jack... But all in all, I have no problem with the plot.
The only real problem with AWE is that the Dutchman curse was never clearly explained. And this was more due to studio execs' interfering than Rossio and Elliot's script.
Yet, I have a lot of problems with the script for OST.
And why they want a ship from Sao Feng if they managed to Singapur... And why the Dutchman doesn't pursue the Empress... And why Beckett wants to keep the heart on the Dutchman... And why the EITC fleet serves only to loom far away in the mist and to sink the Endeavour means to win the battle... Anyway, the problem here is not plot holes (cause OST has them also), but the complicated, tangled storyline. OST is more straight. Of course, it depends also on individual liking. :) I prefere OST (and CotBP) model, and I'm not very original in it, I'm afraid. On the other hand, the plot never was the most important part of a movie, for me. That's why I focused on characters, I think...
