Sociologically speaking, Tumblr is a truly fascinating place. :)

Not quite sure whether to laugh or cry. This is sort of why I never really got to grips with Tumblr. It also explains a lot of the s**t we get on AO3. You made my evening - thank you - off to copy/paste some of the quotes (and yes, I appreciate that they're amalgamated) to entertain my AO3 colleagues in our locked staff chatroom. It all makes FB look positively tame, though even there I have noticed some total idiots!

You're welcome, and it's okay to pass them a link to the whole post, whichever one. XD

You know, I'm actually terrified about the mentality of the generation Tumblr is going to raise up, and yes, I'm aware it sounds like a grumbling of a grumpy granny. People wail about all the evil porn in the evil Internet, but porn is Tumblr's smallest problem. Kids for whom Tumblr is their first and currently only social network are going to get really weird ideas about social interactions, friendship and such. All this 'follow for follow', and 'pls like this post if you don't hate me', and so on... My post was supposed to be a light satire, so I've collected rather laughable than really disturbing things here, but still...

Oh, and when we're at AO3, you might like this. :)

It can be hard work but it's also fun and rewarding. Despite the comments we see (especially on Tumblr) about older fans being creepy etc. (apparently we shouldn't even read fanfic...) we are all 'older', mostly professionally qualified, etc. It makes for some excellent chat, about fanworks and the source material! Because we have a (locked) staff chatroom where we can 'talk' and upload anything we like, it makes for getting to know colleagues really well. I have already had two to stay with me in Portugal and am going to see Hamilton in London next year with some more.

Riiight, because we all know after 25 it's high time to browse funeral catalogues... I don't remember where (someone's icon on LJ? or maybe even a Tumblr post?) but fairly recently I chuckled at a quote that read "So it turns out a big part of adult life is searching for fanfiction", and how true it was.
