You stand at a bus stop. It's a clear day, a faint breeze in your hair, the sunlight at your neck. You suck in a deep breath and find that there's nothing to release; you feel nothing, and oddly enough, it puts you at ease.
"Oh, you're already here."
You turn to see the deep eyes, the thick lips turned up into a grin, the nose that he catches you staring at; he winks and you find yourself laughing. He reaches out, places a hand on your chest, and suddenly, warmth fills you. It sinks deep within you, pours into your veins and travels from head to toe- and then, a beat. It starts low, hesitant, and builds steadily into a pounding drum in your chest. You exhale slowly.
A horn honks in the distance and you see a bus approaching. He glances at it. "I guess it's time for me to go now." He turns back to you and fits his palm against yours. "It's a shame we had to meet this way. I think we would have been a great pair alive." A tilted smile. "Well, at least something good came out of this."
He steps onto the bus, nodding at the driver cloaked in black, before giving you once last wave. "Take of my heart. And maybe I'll see you again."

You wake to low beeps, faint murmurs, and bright lights. It takes awhile for you to adjust, but you can make out your mother's face, can feel someone grasping your hand. Somewhere beside you, a relieved voice murmurs, "The surgery was a success."
You feel the aches come on, little stabs of pain that are easily washed away when a doctor adjusts your IV. You suck in a deep breath, and you feel the strong pounding of his heartbeats.
