1. Three scoops of chocolate. Hakyeon stares at the bag in his hand, already full with fudge squares and peanut butter cups, before stuffing in a few more pieces. Four scoops of chocolate.
2. A thick sweater. Hakyeon pulls the sweater over his mouth, deeply inhaling the scent- citrus and expensive cologne- and tucks himself into a ball. He tries not to think about who the smell belongs to or how he wishes it could be the real person and not some old knitwear that lulls him to listless sleep.
3. A playlist of depressing songs. Almost ironically, the length of the playlist is more depressing than the songs themselves. It lasts Hakyeon all the way to work, through his afternoon workout and through lunch on the building rooftop, and it's not until he's on the last train home, a station away from his stop, that the playlist finally ends and with it, his tears begin.
4. Fire. It comes in all forms, and Hakyeon indulges in them all, in hopes that they'll quell the pain in his heart. There's liquid fire that slides down his throat and offers a brief reprieve from his own thoughts; the little match that lights a cigarette to lessen the shaking of his hands; the inviting orange flame of a fireplace as he tosses photos, letters, promises into its hungry mouth.
This is the recipe he'd given Sanghyuk three years ago, when a tearful boy had been rejected by Hakyeon's best friend. And now, as he watches Sanghyuk and Taekwoon celebrate their wedding day, their bright smiles a stark contrast to Hakyeon's dull eyes, he finds that maybe there is no way to mend a broken heart.
