It's 2 am, and they're watching a movie. From the sounds of it, it's a horrour film, and right now, a girl is screaming, yelling, probably dying. Hakyeon hates those kinds of movies, it never settles well with his mind or his stomach, so it's probably for the best that he's standing in the hallway. One of his shoes is slipped off, one hand holding a bag of snacks he'd hoarded from his late-night filming- Hyuk loves the fish crackers and Jaehwan will eat anything he brings home- and he stands in the dark, listening to five voices just around the corner.
It's 5 am, and Hakyeon sits in the kitchen. He scrolls through yesterday's schedules, checking interviews and various TV appearances, and he tries to block the growing realization that they seem to do well without him. There's no noticeable gap in their formation, no indication that there might be one more person in VIXX, and honestly, he should be proud of them. He scrambles to read tomorrow's schedule, hoping he's included in at least some of them.
It's 7 am, and the coffee machine dings. Taekwoon stumbles into the kitchen, blindly fumbling for the mug that Hakyeon's set out for him, and it takes a few minutes before he finally opens his eyes. "Oh, when did you get back?" Hakyeon doesn't take a breath to respond before Taekwoon's already gone, shuffling back into the room to wake the others. As they slowly walk out, moving right past, through, him, he wonders if his biggest fear is coming true right before his eyes. Because he can handle the separate schedules, the missing appearances, the group outings and dinners he's sometimes forgotten at- it's part of his responsibility to miss some of those- but it's the sudden understanding that perhaps, at some point between his first interrupted speech and him sitting quietly in the back of the room, he isn't noticed anymore.
Hakyeon sets his mug in the sink, quietly slips on his shoes, and heads to the elevator first. He isn't needed, and a voice in the back of his head asks, if maybe he wasn't needed in the first place.
DEAR GOD ANON WHO ARE YOU CAN I THROW THE ENTIRETY OF MY KINGDOM PLUS A BAG OF CHOCOLATE. OMG. This just hits all the angst buttons in my body and it's just written and paced so perfectly, From Hakyeon coming by them, the pindrop of how he's excluded from the hanging out and to schedules. How the rest of VIXX can function without him. This is so good. I love you. Thank you for writing this wonderful wonderful fill!
