He never sees her. Joohyun realizes how cliche that is, especially since that's how that one red-headed mermaid (Amanda? Ariana? Something like that...) screwed up her life, but every time she sees his face, it's as if all rational thought leaves her and she suddenly finds herself back in her sea cave, curled up in an embarrassed ball that will probably die alone.
Besides, Taekwoon probably doesn't appreciate all the shells she leaves on his ship deck, or the piles of clams and oysters she brings every day. If anything, he probably thinks it's creepy how someone randomly drops off kelp clothing or coral crowns, and let's not even get started about how Joohyun stares at him through the cracks in his ship. It's not that Joohyun wants to be a stalker; she just doesn't know how he'll handle her tail. It's kind of long and scaly and definitely shiny because she works very hard to keep it oiled and moisturized, but it can't be that big of a deal-breaker, right? She can just flop after him on the ship or on land, not a big issue at all- Joohyun groans. Who's she kidding? Someone as handsome as Taekwoon definitely won't fall for a fish freak like her.
Maybe one day she'll work up the courage to at least say hi to him, but for now she'll continue to leave little gifts and follow his ship across the ocean. She's fine with this, for now.

Taekwoon grins when he sees another pile of clams on his ship deck. He finds it's a bit cute that the little mermaid with the purple hair thinks she's being sneaky. Please. Does she really think he doesn't notice the seawater trails she leaves behind, or the small giggles she makes when he changes his shirt on deck? Taekwoon leans down to pick up the clams, catching a flash of purple in the corner of his vision as he straightens back up. Maybe he'll introduce himself today. Or maybe, they'll keep up their game for a little longer.

Oh gosh Irene is absolutely made of pure adorable here! I love her pining ways, the things she leaves gifts for Taekwoon, how she worries about how Taekwoon might see her. And the tail, dear god, she keeps them moisturized I love your Irene so much. (I enjoyed the POV switch too.) Thank you for writing this! It's beautiful!
