I have just discovered the best part of my herpetology class. I get to play with the snakes! The campus has a lab full of snakes and turtles (and we will get some salamanders and frogs in spring). everyone in the class is required to help care for the animals in the lab. So I get to spend every Sunday morning feeding and handling all the cute little guys <3
The best part? It counts has part of my grade. I get a decent chunk of points for doing this. Yay! I start next week and will be sure to post pictures of them all.
On an unrelated note we had an interesting morning in fisheries management. The lab for today was to take a survey of ice fishers. We drove in a campus van to various spots and talked to the anglers and measured their fish. One of the last stops was a very icy dirt parking lot with a very steep incline to get in. Our instructor left the TA to help us finish up there and drive us back to campus then drove off in his truck. We should have been out of there very quickly but the van got stuck. We tried everything but the hill was too steep and icy to get up. The van just slid around. The instructor had to drive back and tow us to the top of the hill. I'm willing to bet all the anglers out on the lake were laughing at us. On the plus side while driving back we saw a coyote. :)
