Went to a play Zombie tag on Saturday. It was so much fun! I was catching up on my reading when I came across the story on the local newspaper. It indicated it was going to be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. I had already had gone on a hike earlier out at Packers Bay on the Water's Gulch trail with myself and my hiking buddy for the day. She is great company. A mixed bag is her ability to chat on for hours, she does talk about interesting things though, lol. I was really jazzed to see the story about the tag though and I and two others got all dressed up and made up to go. There was a gathering at the table when we got there and the organizer told us what the strategy was for the game. We got ourselves equipped with light sticks twisted into a circle and tape to our arms and went to the starting point with all of the rest of the "humans". A little more talking and then we were off. I lost my other human mates right off, but it soon slipped my mind. Adrenaline pumping crazily through my system I was focused just on survival.
The first check point I arrived at panting, but still in good form. She told us to go to the next check point. I ran to the next check point which was a goodly distance away exerting myself almost 100 percent. I felt like I was running so fast that my legs were not even my own! I went to the wrong checkpoint and had to backtrack to get to the correct point. It was deliciously terrifying. After reaching the correct check point I found myself having a very hard time catching my breath. I did though and sat down for a moment to steady myself and rest while I asked the check point attendant what check point I was to go to next and for confirmation on exactly where I was suppose to go after that.
Rested I headed towards the the enclosed park that reminded me of a little cemetery then I headed out for the last check point..... the bridge. People were really shrieking by now, the moans seemed to come from all sides, you could hear legs scraping the leaves on the ground, feel the breath through the clothes on your back and feel the fingers stretching out to grab you. I felt un-human, just this ball of energy whirring on through the night. As I approached the bridge my feet instinctively began to trip myself up. In front of the bridge was a hazy grouping of beings milling about. They were all grey from the low light and stiffly dragging bodies that they had captured on the ground. The howling, shrieking and moaning was louder here and a female's voice tore into the droning monotone voices sharp and red: "MEAT..... MORE, MEAT.....MEAT.....MORE, MEAT". She was close on my right yet the darkness cloaked her form and the night held her in its deep folds. Then as one entity the grey milling "zombies" turned there focused on me and howled "THERE IS A LIVE ONE! GET IT!"
I was torn from the trance I had fallen into and RAN! I was joined on my right and left with other runners. Then one on my left went down an I heard the one on my right breathing louder as they passed me. There were things running behind us and into the zombies we all went. They were pawing at me and hissing and I dodged and slipped through as best as I was able. One jumped in front of me and I veered off to the left into to a ditch. My legs sank into the soft ground up to my mid shins, I began to shake, as I clamber-ran through the soft ground and the rocks. Thoughts of twisted hurt limbs flit through my mind then slipped passed me into the night. The zombie burbled unintelligible sounds through the drool and her barred teeth. Her arms flailing at me. I pushed on growling loudly "NO YOU DON'T! NO YOU WILL NOT HAVE ME! OUT OF MY WAY!" I flung myself into my escape. Gasping I somehow dodged unscathed past the wretched being and onto pavement, feet slamming hard and lungs even harder. The group of "survivors" was before me, the hunting arms of zombies began to fade and then all was quiet except the murmur of voices from the warm group of bodies and the fading howls of the beasts that I left behind. I made it! I asked if there was more. Do I have more to go on to? The answer negative, I collapsed onto the cool hard concrete ground under the sanctuary of the bridge.
I had survived!!
Oh, and I'm suppose to be getting a shirt too! lol
