Bah!

So, I ploughed ahead and picked ip the T-Mobile web'n'walk package, and card. It arrived Saturday morning, and I eagerly tore the packaging off, and grabbed the card... only to discover it was a CardBus card. Cardbus is PCMCIA Type 2.1, introduced in 1995, and widely available from 1997. That's 10 years ago.

My laptop has the much more modern ExpressCard socket, basically an external PCI-E connector. Available from early 2004 - a mere 3 years ago - this standard has been widely adopted by the laptop market, including a little-known laptop called the 'MacBook Pro'

So, I cheerfully phone up T-Mobile, to ask them to replace the 10 year old card with a 3 year old one, to be informed that they don't do ExpressCard yet, but they're planning to, but have no dates for this, and perhaps I could take the laptop back and get another one?

Words fail me. I can pick up an ExpressCard 3g adaptor for about 200 quid, or I can buy an ExpressCard to CardBus 3g adaptor for, er, about 160 quid. USB ones do exist, but they don't seem to be cheap nor readily available.

So I guess the card goes back to T-Mobile. Damn you.
