iPod shuffle question

I know some of you guys have this, so a question. Dh's birthday is in a week, and I am out of ideas. I am tempted just to give a gift certificate (returning the favor) but part of me wants to be a bigger person and not to perpetuate the lameness. So I am considering the shuffle, but does it make sense if Dh already has iPod mini. He loves that thing and showed some interest in the shuffle, but are those things different enough? I am thinking it might be easier to run with?
Otherwise, any suggestions for a b-day gift?
