Typical

Apparently I'm the typical 20-30 year old. I just read this article about how people in their 20's aren't "growing up" in the traditional sense (finish school, leave home, become financially independent, get married, have kids) anymore. They listed a bunch of these stats:

'One-third of people in their 20s move to a new residence every year. Forty percent move back home with their parents at least once. They go through an average of seven jobs in their 20s, more job changes than in any other stretch. Two-thirds spend at least some time living with a romantic partner without being married. And marriage occurs later than ever.'

I fit everyone of those stats. Crazy. And depressing.

I disagree with the "reason" that article states though. It said the main reason is probably because there's so many more opportunities for people to do different things nowadays that there's no reason to follow the normal path. It maybe be somewhat true but..

I think it has to do with MONEY. There's no money. If I had a good amount of money, I wouldn't have to move constantly because I could just buy a house. I wouldn't have had to move back to my mom's because I ran out of money. I wouldn't have had to switch jobs so many times because I just wasn't making enough or doing what I wanted to do. As far as living with a boyfriend before marriage.. the first time I did it was because a room mate was moving out so I moved in with my boyfriend of 6 months because - surprise! - I didn't have enough money to stay where I was. As for marriage, I sure as hell would be married right now if we could afford a decent wedding. Yes, we could just go elope or something but I've always wanted to have a nice wedding and Jordan says if we're going to do it, we're going to it right.

Anyway, that's all. I just thought it was kinda funny that I was a part of all those stats lol.

funny, money, random thoughts
