Title: Waiting on a friend
Character: Sawyer
Words: 1200
Rating: PG13 - a few bad words. It's all Sawyer's fault, really.
Disclaimer: Lost is not mine, the title is from a Rolling Stones' song and the idea of giving titles
taken from songs is not mine, either! (janie_tangerine , it's your fault *winks ( Read more... )

aw, thank you so much, hon! *hugs your comment and you for good measure*

I think it shows that I don't like stories where the author feels the need to tell everything, and I try not to do the same - sometimes ending up too hermetic. ;)
But I'm very glad you liked this and that everything came across as just understated, like I hoped. "After" was one of the choices I made to convey that message, and the reddish stains too. I just wanted the reader to perceive that sickly feeling without saying it out loud.

I chose to leave unspoken who Sawyer was referring to - though he could have been referring to at least three of them (Kate, Hurley, Jack) - because it seemed better, so one could be interpret it more canonically or in a slashy way. You know what my interpretation is. ;)
Still, when I write I can't seem to be able to stray too far from canon, who knows why. *shrugs*

Thanks for quoting that line, it's one of my favourite too (and one of the few that sprung up, almost fully formed, and I didn't feel the need to change it).

And I'm very happy, and somewhat surprised myself, that my description of the dog's behaviour felt so real and loving. Of course I do love dogs, as you know, and of course I think they are great friends, but I didn't pay a lot of attention to that point. Again, it just happened that way. (Apparently, those that I didn't have to think about were my best lines. Interesting.)

And finally, about Charlie. I think at him like a sort of protective spirit for his friends, so I thought he would have made sure Sawyer was okay, before heading towards someone else. And in the end, of course it was his guitar. Tom had just found it and kept it, but he wasn't the type to play a guitar, imo. But I wanted Sawyer to think like that, because making him think about Charlie from the beginning would have led me towards a pattern too emotional for him - again, imo (and given what I'm able to write).

Thanks for your long comment, and wow, it caused a long reply! ;)
