In ten years, his world has changed monumentally. In ten years, Shizuka has not.
Kohane grows up, grows into herself. Himawari moves away, exiles herself. And Watanuki... Watanuki is filling the void left by Yuuko, in the shop and in his own heart. With her death, he transcended his self, becoming her. Shizuka knows about loss, knows what it can do; but then again, he is losing too.
For ten years have passed them by, and still he remains the same. His heart, he knows, will always belong to Watanuki and his feelings, he is sure, will never be returned. This has always been a fact of life, one he was content to live with. It had never bothered him.
This, however, is not about that. This is about Watanuki, who is slowly falling apart even with all of his calm confidence. This is about change, the world moving without Shizuka, who in some ways is still stagnant. The only problems he knows how to deal with are spirits and he continues to do so, but everything else, all of Watanuki’s difficulties lie within. And Shizuka can’t reach him anymore, not the way he used to, not in any new way.
