Fifty Shades of Awful...a book review

Jun 19, 2012 14:24

Just before I begin this, I just want to state that all my opinions here are my own. No one has to agree with me on this, and please, don't take my words as holy scripture, I'm just saying what I think about the following works, but I encourage everyone to make their own opinions, no matter how much I tell you how something sucks. I'm just sharing ( Read more... )

silly me, personal, book review, rant, whining, rambling, stuff that sucks

Hey, I just started reading some of your fanfictions and as I was going through your livejournal saw this and knew I had to read it.

Thank you so much for seeing what a joke this book was, like me. So many people around me have been saying just how "wonderful" this writer is and how it talked in depth of the BDSM life. I only read the first two pages online and knew it was going to be a (sorry for the lack of a better description) piece of crap.
I could tell that the writer was a fan of the Twilight series because all the similarities there are, and none of them are close to being good pieces of literature.

I have only ever heard of another book that speaks of BDSM but it is called Story of O, don't know if it's good or not. I'll check out the ones you mentioned though.

Yeah I'll friend you, usually I don't use my journal for anything except joining communities but I'm trying to challenge myself and see if I can write at least once a week, something, anything, really.

I love when people get out their frustrations in writing, it's the best most effective way of doing it!

What can be said about our society it's going to sh*t really, there's no better way of putting it. At the moment I'm actually reading a book called Sarah because I was very curious especially with everything that happened regarding the supposed author J.T. Leroy. It's an interesting subject even if it did turn out to be pure fiction, that makes it in a way to me even more interesting because of its originality.

I've seen previews for Sleeping Beauty the movie based on the book by Anne Rice, it looks very good, I'll have to add it to my summer reading list!

Wheww sorry for the late reply, I spent my weekend pretty much drunk out of my mind -___- (refer to my latest entry for crispy details XD). I friended you back dear ;)

Writing is like therapy for me to be honest. I write a lot on here, just to get things off my chest, stuff I can't just go and talk about to anybody. Even if its just little drabbles I think its worth posting really :D I'll gladly read what you have to say ;)

I know what you mean about society -___- Sometimes I wonder where the fuck we're going with all this...I've read quite a bit about JT Leroy and the whole literary controversy but haven't read the books, you should definitely write a review when you finish it ;)

Whaaaat? They are making a movie based on the book? Fuck, its probably gonna get an X rating because that book is pretty much hardcore porn from cover to cover...

Yeah, I remember the first time I watched the preview. My mouth dropped open. D=

I believe the actress is the same one as that one thriller movie the Uninvited (I'm not 100% sure though.)

I'm only about twenty five pages into the book, the language is crude but it goes with the story, dark for the reader but completely normal to this 12-year-old boy. I could never imagine being raised by a protitude and living in a place where everyone knows about it but the city has accepted it.
It depicts much about how our surroundings influence us greatly as I always believed. When you grow up not knowing anything else, it becomes the norm.

I'll post a review when I'm done reading it. Let's see how it goes I've never done that before :)

Wow...I'll definitely have to watch that :O

I heard its pretty rough to read actually, the story is very dark and violent, especially from the fact that its told through a child's eye. I'm definitely interested in reading your thoughts on it when you finish it ;)

It is really dark, but in a way you find yourself laughing at some of his observations and just how cunning he can be in the beginnin.

I do keep forgetting just how young he is, but there are children all over the world who have lived this, so I see a point to writing a book about it. Just to open the subject and get people talking.

That is the only way it can ever be solved if people are not afraid to talk about it. I hate how some poeple think that because they've never seen it or it just not a part of their lives it does not exists. It does.
