Might be time to update

Moved in Sunday. All that went relatively smoothly and quite painlessly. Then went to B&N with the roomies. Saw Jen (one of the many Jens I know) there. It's her summer job, apparently. Saw the same couple there as in the Russian store earlier in the day. For some reason I think that's an amazing synchronicity. I mean, they weren't even Russian. A girl and a guy, about our age. There were two other girls with them at Barnes and Nobles, and the guy was opening presents. I leafed through a book on Guerilla art.

Been working on my website and few others. I might have a web design commission coming up, and maybe another painting one, so maybe I have a few hundred bucks coming my way soon.

Monday, I got up and off to class (not much sleep the night before, so I am not sure that I actually "woke up.") Didn't feel too bad though. Went to the Senior Thesis talk. All the fine arts departments are apparently now placed under one thesis umbrella. They aren't even segregated by teacher, it seems. Printmaking, Drawing, Painting, and GFA all together. Not sure about sculpture though. They are a whole different bag of chips. Me and Lauren have Derick Adams, just as we thought. He is young and hip and dresses up in cat costumes. However, he seemed pretty nice and, since he is barely older than us, quite approachable. Studio pickins were a little bit of a disaster, since I am always too slow to the draw. I ended up in a reasonably sized space with two other people: Allie and Alec I think, which is kinda funny. For a senior that's a little iffy, but its actually a nice space, and I am right across the hall from Anastasia, (which I just found out today). After studio assignments we had lunch, I ran into Sofya and we agreed to meet, and then I worked on more computer stuff at home for a while. Sofya had to go into work, so we rescheduled. Talked to Deanna online and agreed to meet the next day.

Tuesday I managed to get up relatively early, arrange my studio space, move a few things in, have lunch, and go to meet Deanna half an hour earlier than planned. It turns out we live closer here than in Silver Spring. Literally, we are seven minutes apart on the light rail, not counting the short walks to the train and the wait. After surveying her lovely apartment, we embarked on a whirlwind tour. Took the light rail to the harbor and walked to Federal Hill, and climbed the actual hill itself. I love how peaceful that place is. If I feel crappy, it might be a nice place to go from now on. Then we had some iced tea, went into Urban Outfitters, and then back to the light rail to explore Mount Washington, Meg's old Haunt. Deanna was quite happy to find a pottery painting place, a la Color Me Mine. We found a wallet and some papers in the parking lot of Wholefoods and turned it in to Lost and Found, and I hope they get it back to the person who lost it. She got some chips and hummus at wholefoods and we ate them at the station. Then I showed her around campus, and gave her a tour of the apartment. We talked a bit and then it was time to part. I escorted her to within a block of her place, and I still made it back exactly in time for class. Me and the teacher arrived at the same time. It's basically human history studied through the lens of technological development. The prof is quite the eccentric fellow. I notice that normal professors tend to be crazier than the art ones. But then, they all teach at art school anyway. After class I grabbed a bite to eat at Doris, briefly saw Nancy, and went over to Sofya's. Our press releases are ready and they are absolutely beautiful. And the people in the print shop seem to like our cause and might even give us a discount next time. We sat around and talked about art and life and this and that (we are bad business people, whenever we have a "meeting" we spend most of the time chatting about random stuff, but somehow we do get things done). Imen came in briefly but had to go see a friend off at the Tavern.

I departed at midnight and spent some more time workin on websites. I find it calming. I think I've discovered my "hobby" now. It's a nice bonus that this hobby may make me a couple of bucks in the long run too. Somewhere in there I finally finished "The Iceman Cometh" by Eugene O'Neil. Man, what a wild play. I totally didn't see that coming. I hope that someday I can write like that.

Today, Wednesday, spent a bit too much of the afternoon in the gloom of the apartment. Then went to dinner with Lauren, and then to class. Screenwriting. Seems like an interesting one. Very lively teacher. It's more playwriting that screenwriting, really, since she wants us to focus on dialogue and Aristotelian form. I'll bite. Maybe it'll help me get stuff going for the playwriting season. I have a good start down already. Hopefully I can give it a good finish. Not "The Iceman Cometh" sadly...but they don't give out Nobel Prizes for just anything. She let us out early, so I went to the studios to work for a few hours. I need more supports to paint on, so I'll hopefully buy some tomorrow, as well as new brush cleaning soap, a few new brushes, and a fresh supply of Varnish, Linseed Oil, and Turpentine.

I am thinking of bringing over my big stretchers from home after this weekend and stretching a few huge canvasses. It'll give me something to deal with all semester. Now I am gonna update my sites some more (hopefully a new version of my website will be put up very soon) and then go to bed.

Love,
Aleks
