Postlude to the Great American Bitchfest
I'm about as strait as they come, but this article probably made my day.
Thirty years from now, people will view the denial of gay marriage rights with the same abhorrence as we currently view the denial of interracial marriage rights. And, yeah, I'm directly comparing the two.
I mean, Jesus. The main argument on the anti-gay side seems to amount to "That just ain't right." Oh, and the word of the Bible is fucking supreme law, even if we frown at people who base their laws on the Koran. 'Cause, fuckit, we're America.
I think the reason I'm so emotional in this regard has to do with something deeper than just gay marriage.
I'm just fucking sick of us liberals being called sissies.
It annoys me to no end when an uneducated, servile bible-thumper waves a Confederate flag in my face and calls me un-American. Well, it's actually sadly funny, but whatthefuck.
I'm sick of being told to "love it or leave it." I'm sick of being told to move to Canada. I'm the one acting in my country's best interest. Why don't we hear people telling conservatives to get the fuck out of our country? I'm fucking staying put.
I'm tired of being called a sissy. I'm training to be a Marine. I'm going to end up fighting (And possibly dying) for the country you say I don't deserve to live in. Fuck you. It's an incredible misconception that America is defended by "Real Men" (read: conservatives) and that liberals cower under cafe umbrellas, far removed from the fighting. Bullshit. The backbone of our military is comprised of poor minorities. And we know how they lean.
I'm sick of people hijacking religion to serve their own purpose. God is not on your side, you fucking dunces.
I'm tired of people assuming that 51% voter approval means that liberals are an inconsequential minority. You know what 51% of the vote gets you in Congress? A stalemate.
I'm sick of "liberal" being a four letter word.
I'm sick of liberals feeling like they have to try to pass themselves off as moderates.
I'm tired of being called a hippie. I'm tired of being called a pinko commie. I'm tired of being called unpatriotic. When I support courses of action that I know are in America's best interest, I'm being more patriotic than any blind conservative will ever be.
I'm downright furious over being called a traitor to my country.
