Late in the evening, a half-moon illuminated the Bamboo Forest. Half phantom, half human swordswoman Youmu Konpaku walked down a path, leading to a small shack.
With the opening of Eientei, the once unnavigable Bamboo Forest now had some well-trodden paths to help anyone navigate through. This path was most common, leading to the home of a traveling medicine merchant.
Youmu had received an invite from the merchant, which was more like a challenge.
Pushing through the cloth flap door was a small storeroom full of concoctions and salves. Normally, the shelves were lined behind the counter like a typical small shop, but the room was cleared out. Sitting at the center of the room was the merchant herself. Reisen Inaba, wearing a straw hat and cloak.
In front of her were several guns. Two Colt 1911s, two single-action army revolvers, A M16, four grenades, an RPG-7, and a minigun. Youmu took a step back at the sight, as Reisen glanced up at her visitor.
“So, you finally arrived. I had assumed you resigned to your obsolete fate.”
“Fate? Obsolete? Stop using fancy words and tell it to me straight.” She grabbed the hilt of her blade. “Roukanken and Hakurouken are far from ‘worthless sticks’!”
“I’m assuming you’re too dense to know about firearms, right?”
Youmu sneered. “My blades are the peak weapons for fighting! I don’t need to know anything else but how to cut my foes!”
Reisen stood up, dismissing her cloak. Underneath was her lunarian blazer and skirt, but a bandolier rig with several holsters, slings, and ammo for her arsenal. picked up the Colts, holstering them to the side of her chest. “All of these I got from Rinnosuke. The peak of outside world… No, the true peak of weaponry!”
Next were the single action armies, holstered by her hips. “Those swords you use? These aren't the weapons that bested them.”
Youmu chuckled. “So where are you getting at, calling them the peak of weaponry?”
She slung the M16 over her back. “Because these were made centuries after the fall of the samurai.”
Youmu looked shocked. “Fell? What do you mean?”
“Swordplay is a lost art in the outside world. It’s worthless to study it.” She drew one of the pistols, pointing it at Youmu. “And this pistol is magnitudes stronger than what ended the practice!”
Holstering it, she hooked the grenades on her chest rig. She held up the RPG.
“And this, even magnitudes more!”
Last, she slung the minigun over her shoulder.
Youmu grimaced. “I didn’t know the outside world was so weak! Had they continued to perfect their craft, not even bullets would be an issue for them!”
Reisen smiled, letting out a little laugh. “Then tonight, perhaps you want to prove it? My arsenal, versus your swordplay. No danmaku, but a true fight between warriors!”
Youmu drew both of her blades.
“Oh you’re on, but don’t cry when you lose to my blades!”
She charged forward, crossing both blades intending to cut down her opponent.
Reisen drew one of the revolvers, firing six bullets rapidly. Youmu skidded to a halt, deflecting each shot with a smirk on her face.
“Is that all you really got?”
Reisen pulled a pin from the grenade, rolling it towards her foe.
“Try deflecting this!”
Reisen kicked back, crashing through the rear wall of the shack and rolling to cover. Youmu stared at the strange pineapple-like object for a few moments.
Time slowed down for her, witnessing a fireball expand from the object. She stared forward, sheathing both her swords, and grabbing Roukanken tightly.
“HEART EXCEPRT SLASH!” She cried out, dashing forward in a flash. The medicine shack exploded behind her.
Her eyes were closed, blade drawn out in front of her. A shocked Reiesn had barely ducked beneath the slash.
“Fast, but I’m just getting warmed up!” Reisen yelled.
Drawing both of her colts she leapt into the air, firing both simultaneously at the swordswoman.
“Lower Realm Reflection Slash!” Youmu cried, drawing her second blade and spinning both into a whirlwind. The barrage of bullets bounced off her attack, but one ricoched, scratching her on the shoulder.
“Yeow ow ow!”
Her concentration broke, as she rubbed her shoulder.
Returning focus to her opponent, Reisen was falling with her M16 in hand. She had a confident smile on her face, lining up a clean shot.
She open fired, an even faster torrent of bullets blitzing towards the swordswoman.
Youmu dashed away, the hailfire striking her location. Reisen continued to fire trying to keep her focus on the swordswoman, but she was too fast to keep up with. Youmu weaved between the thicket of bamboo, several bullets striking the plants and sending splinters flying.
Click.
The gun stopped firing. Reisen landed on the ground, ejecting the mag and reaching to her rig for a full one.
“Your guns have to stop firing? How lame!” Youmu’s voice called from within the forest. “My blades will never fail me in a battle!”
Reisen grunted.
“Well my guns aren’t broken you dolt!”
She grabbed the RPG, firing it off into the distance where the voice came from.
The rocket whistled along, crashing into the ground and causing a massive explosion. Splinters of bamboo, and even entire chunks of the plant flew everywhere.
“Ow, ow, that hurt!” Cried out from the forest.
Reisen grabbed her minigun, charging towards the cries.
Seeing the swordswoman scratched by the debris, she revved up the gun and held it up. “Let’s see you deflect all this!”
An endless torrent of bullets flew from the minigun, Reisen being knocked slightly off balance from the recoil.
Time slowed once more, Youmu counted sixty bullets already heading straight at her. Reisen would keep using more and more powerful guns on her, until she was overwhelmed.
This had to end now.
Sheathing Hakurouken, she grabbed Roukaken with both of her hands. She closed her eyes, steadied her breathing, and held her blade behind her.
“CRESCENT MOON SLASH!”
She swung the blade in front of her in a circular motion, cutting a path through the storm of bullets. Again and again, like she was rowing through a river, she cut through until she was right in front of a bewlidered rabbit. Another swing, she cut the minigun in half. With one foot, she shoved Reisen onto the ground, pointing the blade at her neck.
Her calm expression turned smug.
“Guess all those outside world samurai just didn’t train hard enough!”
Click.
Reisen had outstretched her second colt, pointed straight at Youmu’s chest. She too had a smug grin.
“I’m not all out of options yet…”
The two stared at each other. Both simultaneously put away their weapons.
“So uh… This is a draw? But I did go through all your guns, shouldn’t that be great?’
Reisen let out a ‘Humph.’ “You still didn’t beat me! It was only a draw. You still were… Very impressive.”
Youmu’s eyes beamed. “I told you, my swords aren’t worthless sticks! They’re awesome!”
The rabbit shook her head. “Guns are still better. I don’t think your sword can cause awesome explosions like those!”
Youmu huffed. “Well, there’s probably a sword technique for that!”
“Well I don’t need a sword technique, just an RPG!”
The two stared at each others, eye to eye.
“Swords!”
“Guns!”
“SWORDS!”
“GUNS!”
(you can imagine them kissing here if you want to lol)
