I love college

Aug 28, 2007 18:33

So.  I've been at college for nearly a week now, and I still haven't let all my wonderful LJ friends know about all the fun I've been having.

I'll start with my roommate, Rachel.  She's pretty much amazing.  For whatever reason, she finds my quirkyness funny.  Which is good, because I first thought she was going to be a completely stuck up blond... but she isn't.  This just goes to show you how much you judge people without even knowing them.  Regardless, she's great.  She's kind  of a hippy, but we agree about everything (yes, I do mean everything- making our roommate contract was a piece of cake).  The only major difference is that she smokes, which I  don't really agree with, but she won't smoke in the room and she never smells like it, so that's okay.

The girls that live next door are super nice too.  One is engaged (*gasp*) but she's been with her boyfriend for four years, so I guess that's a good decision for them to make.  The other one is in my newsstand bio class and is also really cool.  I usually sit with them at meals, or with Rachel, so I never really feel lonely.

The girl two doors down is a transfer student and a sophomore.  At first she also seemed like a dumb blond, and like she might be really into herself, but oh no, she's like the sweetest person ever.  And... omg... she's the biggest harry potter nerd EVER.  It's so awesome.

I also met a girl that lives in the Spanish House who is very cool.  She lived in Chile for a year, or six months, I don't remember, but she's really good at spanish.  And I met a sweet girl from the German House.  We rescued a ladybug and released it onto the pergola (pergola = big gazebo with wisteria on it).  We named him Hans. ^^

I've also met a boy that's kind of cool.  Not like crush cool, but he's really sweet and kind of cute.  He has that whole emo thing going for him and he loves Scrubs.  I went over to his room last night and watched like five episodes. :)  And I met a senior guy who my roommate says likes me, but I don't know, I think he might be gay... sadness.  He walked me to my bio class yesterday, held all the doors for me... it was adorable.

So far, I've mostly just learned not to judge people when I first meet them.  I feel like a lot of the people I'm meeting now are people I would have never been friends with in high school, just because we would have been too different.  But we're friends now, and that's just downright awesome.

So, my classes.

Latin- Professor doesn't speak loud enough.  The class is fucking packed, hardly enough chairs for everyone.  Latin seems pretty hard too, and the book is impossible to understand.  Apparently someone wrote a book just explaining my textbook. XD  The nice girl I met on Facebook who's a sophomore is in my class, and she's kind of being a big sister to me, which is really nice of her.

Statistics- Professor seems fucking CRAZY.  He yells and bangs on things for emphasis and switches back between telling us we're all going to fail and saying this will be the easiest class we've ever taken.  It's mostly sophomores in my class, but there are a few freshman.  I don't think it's going to be too hard.  I did the reading this afternoon and it had some stuff I did in precalc with sigma and stuff.

Biology- The professor is so nice, and he's really smart... he works for the National Cancer Insitute and has his PhD in cancer biology.  0.o Yeah, I have no clue what he's doing teaching a bio class for non-majors.  The class seems easy, and it also has a lab component.  This means it's like.... two and a half hours long.  It's horrible, it just drags on and on.

English- The professor seriously can't be more than ten years older than me.  She seems so, so nice.  We also have a guy in our class, which is a surprise because it's a course in female lit.  He's from south africa and has the hottest accent.  Today in class she wanted a writing sample about growing up female (the name of the class) and she gave us twenty minutes to write it.  I beasted out a full page and a half- thank you, Mr. Siderio and evil AP tests.

Ballet- I haven't been yet, boo.  If this class goes well, I might audition for the dance ensemble.. who knows.

So now I'm going to go to the gym/dance studio with a girl from next door and the girl from two doors down.  It should be nice- I can't wait to see the studio and get a good stretch in, finally.  I will leave you with this survey. :)
