I was 20 years old when I was in Australia doing study
abroad. One middle aged morning, before the semester
began, I walked by a nursery school near my apartment.
All the kids were hanging out behind bars in the play
ground. When they saw me they all stopped what they
were doing and just stared. Worried they'd be stuck
that way forever I waved at them and they started
jumping up and down, yelling "hi" and blowing me
kisses. So I kept walking and told them "bye" and
they replied "byyyye mommy" some even said "love
you!!"
True story.
Later that day I went to see my roommate audition for
a strip club in Surfer's Paradise. She got the job.
If they only knew she was born in a dorm room at
hampshire college.
Some things I've never seen before:
1) bacon & cheese muffins
2) give way signs instead of yeild signs
3) drive through liquor stores galore
4) deadly seashells
5) kangaroo crossing signs
6) poisonous trees
7) a genuine honey conosieur farmer (Crocodile hunter
style, sells $40 viles of honey. He says you can put
it on cuts and it's a good antiseptic because it has
concentrated chemical compositions similar to that of
peroxide.)
8) taxi drivers you're not suppose to tip
9) 4 meter waves
10) herd of wild grey kangaroos hanging out with a
bunch of wallabees
11) certain constallations
12) poisonous prickly trees

Been hearing a lot from Yana
lately, it feels good. A lot of things from my past
have been coming up in the recent days. My mother spoke to Evelia
Diamontopolis (the mother of an old Greek family we had a falling out with a while back) and she told her Maria cried for me for
10 yrs after we stopped being friends.
People here say "no
worries" after every other sentence. Fanny
means pussy. So I don't really know what I should
call my fanny pack but I carry it around everywhere.
They also call pharmacists "chemists" but I guess
that's not so queer. I like the Queensland sense of
humor. It was nice to toast to Kelly's birthday twice. Once when she was born, but Gold Coast time (which is 14 hrs ahead of Boston) and then again when she was actually born in Michigan.
