Costume Academy

I went to my very first GBACG Costume Academy yesterday and it was a lot of fun!  I took
demode_kvc's Victorian Hair class, which finally made doing something with my hair seem POSSIBLE!  I love all of those styles with the hanging tendrils and curls and I never knew how I was going to pull them off without wear a full wig till now!  yay!  I also figured out what my wig hair color is (I hope) and am looking forward to getting some hair and playing with it.

My next class was JoAnn Petersen's Victorian Men's clothing, which I also enjoyed, she basically brought a whole bunch of her extant garments for us to look at, and there were some really neat examples in there.  My last class was a vintage care and repair class, which was interesting, I did finally learn how to darn, which I somehow never managed to learn how to do, so that was very nice, I now think I can actually repair the pants that have been sitting on my dresser with a small hole in them forever!

I am still trying to figure out what I want to do for the Little Women's Picnic in May.  I was originally going to make a dress from some beautiful blackwatch plaid cotton that I had found awhile back for an 1860's Day Dress.  Unfortunately, while it would make a perfectly wonderful fall dress, it's just not going to do it for spring :(.  While I was helping JoAnn load her car however, she had a fabulous white sheer 1840's extant gathered dress, that was very inspiring.  Now I am trying to figure out how to do something in a sheer fabric.  Unfortunately all I have found online so far is white and ivory cotton voile, nothing interesting with a pattern (Fashion Fabrics Club had some really ugly prints) so I am now starting to think about either doing an ivory dress, or getting some white and dieing it.  Does anyone have a place to get nice printed cotton voile?
