I am so bored! It's raining and i have to study for my International trade law exam tomorrow. Exams scheduled for weekends are the worst. ＿|￣|○

JE boys are mostly an act. Like they put on these distinct images to form some kind of emotional attachment to the fangirls to make us believe we fully know them. Haven't you observed how they seemingly have same answers, only worded differently? While they may have similarity to their images, I won't be shocked if they are quite different in reality. If they have great musical talent (which I consider Ryo in because he can sing, play instruments and write stuff) it's definitely a plus, but really...their sole purpose is to look pretty and entertain people in whatever manner they plan to (sing? okay. gyrate hips? okay. fly? OF COURSE.) But I still love them.
You're lucky. I don't think the NEWS fandom will be picking up soon. More time for DBSK. XD I'm so sorry to tell that. It has been common fact that their sales are down and the lowest among groups in the jimusho. Happy Birthday just sold 227,000+ despite having a major cm tie-in. Not bad, but that's the current number. Some groups get that number within a week. Kanjani's latest got 348k on the first week. It's sad because NEWS is my ichiban in JE but unless one of them does something huge or spectacular. 2009 might be better: Uchikusano might come back, Yamapi seems bent on a romance drama and of course, Tegoshi's movie. But we'll see about that, but as of now, the jimusho seems to prefer to give the boys individual activities rather than as a group. Please forgive me, but I get the feeling current NEWS aren't ready for a variety show. They need to be more hyper and gain more PR XD

SM as a whole gives out a rigorous sing and and dance training. LIKE REALLY RIGOROUS. To the point that they could make mediocre dancers good (read: Heechul, Changmin, Jae) or so-so singers sound great.

Those two videos pretty much shows what SM training is all about. And I remember BoA and Junsu saying that management is only making them eat seaweed/go on a diet because they look fat on TV. They SO don't look fat. SM is evil that way, though I think JE is more evil. Have you seen DBSK's cars?! All gifts from Sooman. Lexus, Mini Cooper, all those luxury cars XD And while the boys are overworked, they are financially compensated for it. And Jaejoong himself said he wants them to be busy, so I guess both parties are happy.
Haha, from what I know, Tego practices a lot in karaokes. Like you're supposed to just have fun if you go karaoke-ing, but he goes all srzbsnz and does his vocal practice there. While his voice is better than most of the jimusho, I just imagine how it would sound if he would go in some kind of SM/Avex training. I bet he'll have better modulation and a more controlled vibrato. You know you'd become awesomely good after voice lessons? Massu. Give Massu vibrato - imagine the wonderful high notes he'd do. XD His voice is so easy on the ears, I have to admit that though Tegoshi is my ichiban. Jin knows how to sing definitely - better than half of Suju. Have you heard his Bokura no Machi de acapella in QoP concert? I went "hoshit, so amazing" and his Love Juice perf qualified him XD People underrate him. He is talented. And Nakamaru - I don't know ANYONE in kpop who could beatbox like him. Scarier is that he taught himself beatbox. @_@ Amazing, really.
Korean isn't a walk in the park but is by far easier than written Japanese. Like in Japanese, you have to memorize everything, Korean has symbols that pertain to vowels and consonants and you just join them together to form a character. Oh, the banjun DBSK dramas!~ I LOVED THOSE XD Changmin crying was~~~ and the Yunjae effect. LOL. Dangerous Love FTW.

But I agree with what you said more or less. It’s not that Johnny wants to get his boys humiliated. What the boys do it’s normal in Japan. I will probably never understand some actions of Japanese people but if you look closely inside the Japanese society you’ll notice that it’s not just the JE boys who do weird things like that. I was talking once to this Japanese guy and he was telling me about Koda Kumi’s concert in T-dome and how in the audience there were all sorts of guys, cosplayed and everything doing weird stuff to entertain the audience. They were not even paying attention to the concert. All they wanted to do was to make fun of themselves. And he said that’s pretty normal among Japanese.
Just look at all those people in Harajuku for example. They are all freaks! It may be the anime influence but that’s what their culture is about more or less. Take another example: my friend who went to Japan with a scholarship. She was shocked by the Japanese girls there. She said their clothes were awfully strange and she felt so wrong next to them.
I believe it takes ages to understand Japan and its society even if you live there.
I agree on one thing with you though. Yes they are different in reality. (I can’t see the difference in Yamapi’s case though. I really believe he’s a humble person and a man with a big heart. And I’m not biased.)
But that happens to ordinary people too. I go to work and school everyday but It’s not like I’m going to act the same with different people. It’s normal.
NEWS sells less than other Johnny acts indeed (I don’t know about the kids though) but still they sell much much better than any other artist in Japan. Well judging by the single sales here. When it come to albums there’s another story.
But being the NEWS fan that I am I get kind of pi$$ed when KAT-TUN gets the awesome PVs while NEWS get the crap. Judging by only that then their sales are HUGE.
Coz seriously, it’s their fans who buy the singles. Who would want to buy a single like Happy Birthday when their PV was so childish and dumb.
Now to SM. I’m not familiar at all with them but after reading your comment and seeing those youtube videos I can probably make an opinion already. They put lots of efforts into training them but damn they at least train them the best. I’m amazed at how good BoA was dancing while she was like what, 11? You say JJ was a bad dancer? Well, I didn’t know but damn he now dances like a pro. As for eating only seaweeds because they look fat on Tv...eating healthy food is one thing but making them eat less because of that. The reason is completely wrong.
And I was so surprised by Jae and his answer in I forgot which magazine. Yeah he wants more work ! Wow. I mean they all looked like they were hit by a truck or something at the end of 2008 due to all the stress they had been through. And only one week of holiday. Is he normal? Or was he forced to say that?
But at least they get rewarded big bucks. Johnnys get like... nothing. I’m always surprised by how happy they are whenever they get to eat some expensive meat or get posh stuff for themselves through all those competitive shows they go to.

Do Koreans use Chinese kanji too? Coz I’ve had the impression they do but then whenever I enter a Korean site there’s only their own writing system.

Yamapi is obviously nice, lots of real life accounts in livedoor already said so. And I'm honestly shocked. 10 years of immense popularity would easily make anyone have a huge ego, but for such a big star like him - while ha may have some ego, he is especially grounded for someone of his status. I just hate his habit of going to meetings late on purpose That's just unprofessional. I remember him picking up a girl when fans attacked him during a private trip to Korea. No bodyguards or anything, and there was this girl acidly filming him who tripped and he still paused to pick her up. His friends were already pissed but he seemed to understand. But based on his interviews, I don't think he is very aware that he is popular throughout Asia. XD
Jae also used to be a bad singer. XD He had to audition two or three times before SM admitted him. Like he said he couldn't even sing in tune, but he forced himself to join a band because he is desperate in being a singer. And he practiced endlessly...which resulted to the Jae we have today. The awesome Jae. XD I think Jae is a decent dancer, but rather than a natural one, I would refer to him as a trained dancer. Actually, out of DBSK, I say Yoochun, Changmin and Jaejoong are trained dancers but they're good now and that's what matters. Like they're the type who'd be at loss if no one gives them choreography. XD They end up looking cute though when they are ask to dance randomly because I think DBSKfail is the cutest thing. I am sadistic to Changmin like that..
DBSK would want work but it seems Jae is pertaining to more Japanese activities. After all, the boys seem very driven to join the big players in jpop. I say it will be an interesting ride. This will be fun. I think Junsu was declared as a boke in a recent show. I totally went...so DBSK is gonna do tsukkomis now ala K8? XD
Oh. They do have - it's called Hanja. But they barely use it so...it isn't a must.
