Basically. Alec Havelock finds himself possessed by an alien entity, called Vorenus. During one of his travels with the Doctor, no doubt, and without the Time Lord's knowledge.
This thing, whatever it is, is clinging to life within the young actor. The differences between the host and the occupant are obvious - Alec would never wield a gun, he would never put someone down, and he would never intentionally hurt someone.
Vorenus is everything that Alec is not, and he's dangerous.
