Point of Order (so to speak):
As I begin this typical beginning-of-the-semester post, I realize how many times I have written it. I'm not going back to count; god knows I do not want to read anything I've put down in this journal. Let's just assume I have written a similar post 6 other times. This journal has existed mostly for school, so it makes me wonder if I will continue to check livejournal when I graduate.

In fact, writing in here has completely fallen out of my habit (something I see everyone else has experienced too, with the exception of Patryk and sometimes Erin or Haley). So, in the spirit of seeing if this journal really serves a purpose in my life, I will attempt to update it more frequently.

Alright. School!
School seems pretty solid. I am only taking four real classes and a PE, so I shouldn't be too stressed out:

Shakespeare and Film: I've never taken a Shakespeare class, so it is about time. The texts we are reading seem fairly boring, however, and I feel like I should do some outside reading just in order to get what I really want from this class. I should have read Romeo and Juliet tonight for class, but I never got around to it. Ah well. I'll get it done somehow. The teacher is slightly odd and has assigned a group paper (blegh).

Homer: I am pretty excited about this class. The teacher is a Homeric scholar, and so far I have been impressed with her approach and flexibility with the text. I was worried about coming to this class; I remembered really hating Homeric Greek last time I read it. The first book of the Iliad, however, is really wonderful.

Anglo-American Modernism: Again, I should have read Conrad's Nostromo tonight, but I didn't get around to it. I am excited. This is one of my favorite professors. I will learn a lot and really appreciate his lectures.

Jogging: Ohhhh, let's see if I can get into better shape. We had our fitness test, and I did 20 pushups in a minute, 40 situps in a minute, and ran a mile and a half in 12:54 minutes. We shall see how I improve.

Intro to Linguistics: Intro classes are hilarious; I haven't had one since sophomore year. I like the material enough to endure the class itself, which is early and taught by a Russian woman with a very thick accent. Mostly I am interested in this class because I can see myself using the text and the lessons in an Enlglish class of my own one day.

There are my classes.
I'm also working and interning:

Work: Still pretty good. I've finally gotten a handle on all my files and found the rhythm of everything again. My substitute this Summer had more relaxed standards, and I have been trying for the last month to reinstate all my patterns. I really hope I can dedicate the time to do this job well this semester and get paid. With everything going on, I'm a little worried. I'll just make it happen.

Internship: I'm excited and a little worried. It is very very similar to my job now, except that there are many more people involved, the lifespan of a manuscript is longer and more varied, and it is more difficult to keep everything organized. I'll be doing a lot of filing and studying from the Chicago Manual of Style.

In general, life is good. There have been some new additions to my life in the last few weeks, and I am excited to see how things go. My promise to myself is to really dedicate the time and energy to make sure things work out right. I will definitely be stressed and busy, but I need a full life, I realize, and I need to put my personal satisfaction as a high priority.

I miss my parents, and I need to talk to them more often, too.

Alright, I'm done.
