salve mi amici!
sono qui in vacanza a Roma, et sono stanko. It has been a long week, and as much as I am enjoying myself, I really could use a cool night in my familiar room, a little vh1 with the roommies, and a cheap drink. I spent several nights in Atlanta, spending a lot of time with the fantastic Patryk. Then a "day" from hell: 8 hours to Gatwick London, bus across city to Heathrow London, several hours in terminal, several hours in flight to Rome, long train ride to center of city, and a long walk to my hotel. After waking up, I saw the sun set twice before I went to bed.
I got to the program early, so I spent the last couple days meandering around, taking in all the beautiful monuments and people. Trevi Fountain. Column of Trajan. Romani Fori. Spanish Steps. All wonderful. Lots and lots of walking. I have been living on pizza and gyros.
The rest of the kids got here yesterday, and we are still too jetlagged to actually go out and party at night. Soon, though. Very soon.
Romans are interesting, but I am still uncomfortable and do not have my bearings with people. Not knowing the language is also difficult. When I have used the few phrases I know, they are either annoyed or enthusiastic but rarely in between.
Tonight I have 80 pages of reading assigned, and tomorrow we will be walking around for most of the day. Not too thrilled about this whole class thing after several days of leisurely European life (early breakfast, walk through town until 11, pizza at noon, nap at one, dinner with alcohol at 7, sleep with windows open).
I will be sure to update more later. ciao a tutti!
