Bar Touko was quieter than usual that night. While she wasn't necessarily complaining about it, it struck Zoniha as odd, considering that it was a weekend night and Bar Touko was definitely one of the hotter spots to go on Starlight.
"There's been an increase in armed robberies lately," Mama explained coolly when Zoniha asked, exhaling a gentle plume of smoke after a thoughtful drag on her cigarette. "It proves that appearances are everything: people aren't so willing to lose their money to a masked crook in thrift store clothes as they are to an unmasked crook dressed in Palmani suits and wearing gold watches."
"So true!" Zoniha laughed. "I do hope you haven't been losing too much business, though, Mama dear."
Mama grinned. "Whatever I lose this week, I'll make up later once people decide that they've been missing out on the fun here at the bar."
"And in the meantime," Zoniha said, "This Zoniha and Zhael will make up for your missing clientele. Right, Zhael?"
