Another Trip to the Oral Surgeon

I don't have a lot of time before I take Katy to school, but I wanted to write about my trip to the oral surgeon yesterday. I had an implant put in where my lower back left molar used to be. First of all, let me say that I think I've got a great oral surgeon. If anyone in the Knoxville area needs one, let me know and I'll give you his name. He's got a great chair side manner.

Anyway, I had to do this using only Novocaine because Lisa had a lot of stuff going on at school and couldn't drive me home after being sedated. Other than a very small amount of pain from the deep Novocaine injections, the only discomfort I had to deal with was the occasional issue of my lip getting trapped between and instrument and my teeth. Even that was only momentary and minor. The worst part was how wide open my mouth had to be. As I said, it was the very back tooth and he had to get drills, pick, socket wrenches, and a full size jackhammer back there. (Okay, I made that last one up just for effect.) The procedure itself didn't last as long as I thought it would. I didn't look at my watch but I'd estimate from the first injection to being finished with the stitches was around 30 minutes.

As relatively painless as the procedure was, the recovery hasn't been as nice. Now, in truth, part of that is due to the fact that I don't have a high pain tolerance. Nevertheless, yesterday wasn't pleasant. I tried to work a little, but just couldn't concentrate and after I picked Katy up from school and popped a lortab, there was no point in even trying to work. ;) Instead, I distracted myself by playing a new game, Aion, that's in open beta testing this week.

This morning, I'm still pretty sore. Once again I can't take lortab because I have to take Katy to school and I don't want to take a chance of still being under the influence when it comes time to pick her up this afternoon. All the relief I'm going to get is what Ibuprofen can give me. I will have to find a way to work, though, because there are things that simply can't wait. I'd write about that but at the moment it's still "classified," so to speak.
