Yep, today is my birthday. It is the 21st anniversary of my 21st birthday. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
I got to work late this morning because I was reading the Harry Potter book and couldn't put it down. I felt bad because I was late for a meeting, but I couldn't close the book. I finally finished a chapter that ended a little sadly and that enabled me to put it down. I was shocked to see that it was almost 8:30 and I hadn't even dressed yet.
When I finally got to work, I found that the department administrative assistant, Becky, had decorated my cubicle with balloons, streamers and confetti. There were also 2 dozen Krispy Kreme donuts on my desk. (I've broken down and had two of them but I'm resisting the rest.) It was a very nice gesture on her part.
Last night, right after work, I met some co-workers at Rafferty's for drinks. One of the consulting companies that were brought in to help with a big project decided to throw a little party since the project is almost complete. Anyway, free drinks are my favorite kind so I sat out on the patio with them until my family arrived. Once they did, I excused myself and we had my birthday dinner.
I'm not entirely sure what the weekend holds. I'm sure there will be some packing and I also MUST put in some billable hours because our second big project has to be ready for testing in the field in a little over 3 weeks. It's terrible timing what with the move and all, but since I won't be able to work at all next weekend, I need to get some stuff done over this weekend or I'll never get it down in time. Unfortunately, there are things involved in this project that only I even have a chance to get done in time. (Or fortunately, if you look at it from an paid overtime point of view.)
