Boy, am I tired! We had a great time at my parent's house last night. The turnout was intentionally smaller than the last few years which actually made the whole thing more enjoyable. Let me give a quick recap since I'm actually at work right now.
Justin_Jones and
themoggy and their boys came over to our house for dinner. I actually fired up our rarely used gas grill to make cheeseburgers and hot dogs. How more appropriate can you get on the 4th of July? Then Justin and I took all the kids over to my parent's house while Calliope and Dawn stayed behind for a few minutes of kid-free peace.
Once everyone arrived at my parent's house, I gathered the men-folk and we went to a local explosives dealer to purchase some goodies for after dark. Then everyone snacked and drank and visited for a while. It was just barely getting dark when someone started getting bottle rockets and fire crackers going. As it got darker, we moved up to the progressively more fun stuff. I wasn't looking at my watch, but it felt like it took us a couple of hours to shoot off everything. I was a tired, sweaty mess by the time we were all done (including the cleanup).
Justin and Dawn came back to our house and quickly decided that, due to the lateness of the hour, it would be better to spend the night with us rather than make the long drive back to their house. I tried to be a good host and visit for a while, I even got out the telescope so we could look at Jupiter and the moon, but I was pretty tired and had to get up to go to work today. I believe I climbed into bed a little after 1:00 but for some reason had a hard time getting to sleep.
All in all, it was a great 4th of July! I'm already looking forward to next year.
