Calliope's procedure seemed to go quite well. She seems to be recovering quite well. The doctor that performed the myelogram used a very thin, flexible needle for the spinal tap to help reduce the possibility of her getting a spinal headache. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she continues doing well.
While I was very pleased with the doctor and the nurse assigned to Calliope, I wasn't very pleased with Centennial overall. Their original plan was that Calliope would spend around 2 hours laying flat on her back IN THE HALLWAY near the nurse's station so they could keep an eye on her. She negotiated with them until they found a ward that wasn't being used today and said that I could be in there with her but there would be no call button so I'd have to get a nurse if she needed anything. I'm absolutely stunned that they expected a patient to spend 2 hours on a gurney in a hospital gown with a couple of blankets IN THE FREAKING HALLWAY! Maybe it's just me but I find that totally unacceptable.
As a side note, they told her that the reason hospitals have been more difficult about letting spouses stay with the patients is because of the privacy rules in HIPPA. First of all, I think that's ridiculous because if the spouse can overhear conversations, I'm fairly certain the patient can as well. (Unless the patient is being treated for hearing problems, of course.) Second of all, after telling her all this, they inform her she will get NO PRIVACY while she's recovering. WTF, over? As I said, I'm happy with doctor and the nurse, but not the facility.
calliope,
